Most people who own an Olympus E-500 will say you cant use ISO 50 or ISO 3200, because there is no way to set it in the preferences. What if i told you yes there is a way that doesnt void your warranty? Well here you go.

Start with your camera off, Next turn it on, Open the Card-Cover
Press the Preview/Play & OK at the same time.
OLYMPUS E-500 Will appear on the screen
Next Press UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT, The Shutter Button, UP
Page 1 with text below will show
Next Press LEFT, DOWN, RIGHT, DOWN, SHUTTER, OK
A screen with Test as the title should appear below it you should see
Prg 0 Item 0

For ISO 50 Change it to
Prg 10 Item 0
Press OK, Then Close the Card Cover, after that your setting will show ISO as Auto, Its ok its still ISO 50 to get out of ISO 50 Just change the ISO. After you take a shot get the info on that shot in your preview it will show ISO 50.

For ISO 3200 Change it to
Prg 10 Item 18
Press OK, Then Close the Card Cover, after that your setting will show ISO as Auto, Its ok its still ISO 3200 to get out of ISO 3200 Just change the ISO. After you take a shot get the info on that shot in your preview it will show ISO 3200

This Link is the same as above but i added pictures.

Camera hacking my friend what has been found is a debug menu..... now if we can crack the firmware and make the camera have a couple other possible features.......
05/11/2007 11:09:55 PM · #5
its the debug menu yes it allows you to enable those features, BUT if you change the firmware in anyway your void your warranty on your camera now which would you prefer a voided warranty or a way to enable those features without voiding your warranty. Im for using it with a non voided warranty. Its not camera hacking, the firmware hasnt been changed nore has the hardware of the camera, So it wouldnt be considered camera hacking.

You know exactly what i mean. The Debug menu should allow for more changes but its hard to say what. But even so camera's that wont mirror lockup during long exposure liek the D50 could most liley be programmed to because it has a mirror lockup function. If a camera / firmware version of a guy like ben heck (game console modifier he made portable atatri's and even xbox 360 laptops.) had the ability to take it on!

I'm sorry I didn't mean to make it seem like you shouldn't have posted cause of the old thread, just that it also had some good info. Certainly still relavant info that I had actually forgotten about until I saw this.

i didnt mean to sound rude or ignorant sorry about that lol actually its pretty cool to be able to shoot at ISO 50 or ISO 3200. Hopefully it helps E-500 Users out just a little bit. I wish i understood why olympus at least didnt add the ISO 50 setting it would have been nice.
n-e ways. If anyone still wants to know //www.e500.port5.com/ is a small tutorial that i created with pictures hopefully it helps some.
