Alright if you have no idea what I'm talking about go here...Geocache

This thread is what spurred this.

I think this is a great way to get out and take more photos...maybe even to locate a photographic opportunity. I’m getting my Garmin Etrex Legend Cx soon, and really want to start this up. So...who wants to play.

We used to Geocache when my son could still walk and we loved it. We saw places and things that we never would have if it hadnt been for doing that. I still have 2 GPS but sadly they dont get used much anymore.

geo caching is super fun! I came across one on accident in the woods while hiking the other day, first time I had ever even known such things exist. I don't have the equipment to do it nor the money to buy the equipment, but it is for sure going on my wish list this year for santa!

I just recently found the Geocache site. What an awesome thing! It felt like Christmas all over again. I need to buy me a GPS first, but yes, I would love to join. :)

Love geocaching. Come to Michigan, we'll get lost in the woods together.

I've found several locally and a few near my parent's in Missouri.

My advice is to pick out an easy one for your first find and join over at geocaching.com.

I gave my partner Joe a GPS for Christmas and when the weather gets nicer we'll be doing some geocaching.

Letterboxing

Letterboxing is similar, but no need for a GPS. There are letterboxes all over the world.

I went geocaching with sylandrix once and it was loads of nerdy, outdoor fun!

Wow this sounds fabulous, I have been thinking about purchasing a good gps device. I don't know anything about them, are they the same as the driving direction units?

I can't even spell GPS.

I agree, Geocaching is a great way to adventure outside and photography ties in very nicely. I've slowed down in caching some but the first two years I was active I found more than 500 each of two years. I'm over 1100 finds now throughout the US, Caribbean and Mexico. I've discoverd so many great sites that I would never have seen. Absolutely take a camera, great exercise and adventure.

quite talking about it and just do it! If you hide it, they will find it... (just post the coords here once you hide it)

I'm close to catchin' you then...! I'm at 1,057 at the moment. I even dragged Scalvert along on one this weekend because I couldn't manage to go a day without doing one while we were at our GTG!

Great idea... pictures while geocaching. I'll be sure to bring my camera with me for the ones out in the sticks. I actually already have a geocaching picture in my portfolio:

If you're ever in central NH you can check-out this geocache that my daughters and I set. Watch out for the muggles though :-)

Hiding one and watching the traffic can be almost as much fun as finding them.

We haven't gotten around to planting any caches yet (tho' we have the goodies for one), but Becky-Lee and I have been doing some for a bit more than a year. It's great fun and wonderful excuse for getting exercise :)

I recently hid a rather evil one (GC12EE4) and Prof_Fate found it the other day thanks to a deaf guy who apparently spends a LOT of time in the area. Apparently he was there when someone else found it, and is now acting as a tour guide to show people where it is...!

I've dragged a few other DPC'ers on caching missions over the last couple years. I dragged lykofos along while we were on our way to an Altoona GTG a couple years back.

This January I dragged tryals15 and cpurser to one in New Orleans... probably the most unique one I've ever done! You have to ask for a "tour guide" to lead you to the roof of an office building! Check out VIEW CARRE'

I will...as soon as it's in my hands. I ordered it online yesterday. Probably get it sometime next week.
