This was my entry in the last expert editing free study...could I have some comments?..I'm not sure why it placed so low in standings; unfortunately, I didn't see much use of expert editing in that challenge.

I'm not sure, seems not much wrong with it, except for missing the wow-factor..
This might have to with the rule of thirds (yet again): cropping the left to where the beam on which the bulb is mounted will bring the bulb itself on the upper left convergence point. That should help a lot I suppose.. |

I am not a woody-hater as such, but in this case they have turned what I thought a rather good study of something mundane into a kitsch creation that takes away from the quality of the original image. On a (slightly) less subjective, and more technical, level, the light on the woodies just doesn't seem quite right when compared to the placement of the light source; the focus on the woodies seems quite soft compared to that of the light and it's fittings; and the composition seems not quite right - I would have preferred to see all of the woody on the right, stretching out and reaching for the light, hoverring in the air. Hope this helps a little. |
