I was asked to take photos of a 12 week old baby girl in her christening dress. Could you please give me some feedback on them. Thanks in advance.

Well for what is worth here are my two pence worth

1. I am not a big fan of the outfit they chose, to me it all smacks a bit of playing dressing up with kids (I appreciate the vast majority of people are likely to disagree with me on this point but I thought it would allow you to put my other comments into context as well)

2. They are a nice series of shots. The vignetting works well

3. Third shot is probably my favourite in terms of composition in that it has a classical feel to it (child looking away from camera). My feeling is that is the one a parent would prefer

4. The wispy hair creates a bit of an odd light effect about just above the childs head (its almost like an eclipse). Not sure whether pp to either clone this out, out to make it stand out more would be better

5. Generally the lighting is good but in the second shot it appears quite harsh on the baby's face

6. They are parents, they love their child and therefore so long as you dont make it look like a monster they will love the picture

Of all points my view is that 4 warrants the most thought

Hope this is of some help

Thanks Jon, The dress is one that all of the family have christened their girls in, about 16 girls in all. I will work with your comments. Wasn't sure about the black background but I am limited to black or a smudged blue one (which is a nice but think it was suitable for this shot).

Left a couple of comments. I happen to like the dress. I just think Baby 4 needs to be brightened up a bit.

Bump for the next guy.

I'm guessing she didn't even try the blue background. I know I wouldn't. I think it would send mixed messages. Everybody associates blue with a boy. And the baby is in a dress. So ... is it a baby boy or a baby girl?

I think that if I were to play with the background at all, I'd probably try white.

i would too, the black background is a touch harsh to ME. maybe a soft pink would look nice too

These are pretty good. I know how difficult it is to shoot such young ones.

FWIW I'm not as big a fan of the vignette. It seems a little bit too much and makes it look like the baby is all alone in this tiny room with a flashlight shining on her. If it weren't as harsh I'd probably like it more.

Great shots!

I don't mean to sound vicious here, but I think they are all to dark. all of your whites are not white. the lighting is very very flat, there is no depth to the image. The vinette makes it seem like it's a baby in a hole.

there are postive things though. I think your poses are tack on, and the expression is good in most of them. I like the camera angle and the baby looks very sweet too.

I wasn't too sure about the vinette, although I dont mind it. I will be showing my customer a shot with and without. I only have the black and blue background. I didn't take any shots with the blue bakcground because it is a girl baby. I would like to invest in a white background because photos I've seen with it look so good.

Thanks for your ocmments so far.
