I would say that in general Holy Communion was religious, but the ceremonies - the parades, the clothes, the tea parties and so on - for First Communion was definitely a cultural event.

i'm sure if you take a photo of someone walking out of a shopping mall with a load of bags from various shops that it would be somehow a cultural event... DNMC pedantic weirdos might see it otherwise but whatever...

from chambers:

culture noun 1 the customs, ideas, values, etc of a particular civilization, society or social group, especially at a particular time. 2 appreciation of art, music, literature, etc.

Basically that covers everything one does when coupled with the word "event":

event noun 1 something that occurs or happens; an incident, especially a significant one. 2 an item in a programme of sports, etc.

So a car crash is a cultural event... sticking your middle finger up at someone is a cultural event... infidelity is a cultural event... the list is inexhausible if you really want to get down and dirty with the definition. Just that, again, those DNMC pedantic weirdos will slate you for it.

Yeah, because anyone who feels a picture of someone flipping you the bird is a pedantic weirdo.

Yep, I guess I'll be just that when voting this one. ;-)

I'm thinking of staging a pow wow,

I have a few Ojibwe-Nakota friends who could help me out.

O my -- I'm so going down. What a subject to pick for your first entry after 2 years of silence!!! *sigh*

Sit with same dilemma as some of you guys! Small town, nothing happening... and.. not the sporty type...

Would love to see if voters can find the link between my pic and the topic *giggles* -- but.. my description makes it fit perfectly... and... I did not lie!!!

There was a certain irony in what i said... i find it amusing that a lot of DNMC people are being pedantic when truly being pedantic would reveal there was no DNMC to consider in the first place...

[[Culture (from the Latin cultura stemming from colere, meaning "to cultivate,") generally refers to patterns of human activity and the symbolic structures that give such activity significance. Different definitions of "culture" reflect different theoretical bases for understanding, or criteria for evaluating, human activity. In general, the term culture denotes the whole product of an individual, group or society of intelligent beings. It includes technology, art, science, as well as moral systems and the characteristic behaviors and habits of the selected intelligent entities]]

Taken from wickipeadia: so therefore any activity we do is cultural and any group activity is an event.... Shoping, going to church, weddingds, funerals, going to the pub, parties and I would even say giving someone the finger.. We all use transport and therefore car crashes are part of our culture as is drink driving. we have drug culture. dress cullture food culture and the list goes on and on.
