Gee, I figured you'd be cheaper than us! We're at $1.16 a litre.

They have more taxes included. Always have!

Good choice... if more people drove cars like that it would do a lot to slow the price increases.

Really? What are the taxes like on gas? We have pretty high taxes ehre in Newfoundland.

The diesel Ford Focus only available in europe gets a bit over 50 MPG. If we can get that in the states.

Im switching to a 250cc motorcycle that gets 55 to 75 MPG. Unfortunately bikes like the Honda CBR get the same gas mileage as a civic and 31 is horrid to me. My toyota averaged 34.

I said it last summer when these threads arose, but I'm actually happy about the prices. It is only the almighty dollar which forces Americans to change their habits. Pure and simple. It's been shown a hundred times before and is true here as well.

I wanted a TDI but they are hard to come by (USED). I buy used because it saves me a lot of money. Everyone is holding on to their TDI versions because 2006 year model was the last year it's available in the US.

Yep - I picked a 06 up and love it (get about 46 highway and 40 around town). The TDIs will be back in 08 with the new blend of ULSD.

Guys - seriously, whenever i see an American complain about petrol prices i cringe... it is about 90p a litre over here (UK)... now that is what at current exchange rates? about $1.90 - well there are about 3.8 litres to a gallon according to google which means that we are paying about $7.20 a gallon... but i am not sure your gallon is that - if you are imperial that is as BeeCee said 4.5 litres... so we are talking $8.55

have i made my point nice and clearly?

After taxes and Insurance i make about 12,000 dollars a year. Thats the average cost of an apartment these days. Much less paying for gas i reserve the right to bitch all i want.

But you live on an island. How far can you go?

When I take my Ford Gargantua for my weekend jaunts to Wyoming (I live in Washington), what am I supposed to do?

(this was tongue-in-cheek for the humor impaired...)

I'm sorry you have it so hard... try getting an apartment over here, you would be lucky to get one for £50k and that would be in a very poor and run down area somewhere... average wage over here pretax cant be anywhere near £25k and that is only half of your apartment comparison.

Need i say more on the subject of relative standards of living?

Thanks for playing along with the "i have a gas guzzler and dont care" stereotype DrAchoo... hehe

$6.00 per gallon in Italy now. Get over it. Gas in the US is too cheap by half or more. My counsel: tax the shit out of it and use the proceeds to make the US independant of carbon-based mobile fuel ... figure out how to combine nuclear electricity generation w/ hydrogen-based mobile fuels.

Just an opinion. Please take it at face value and don't shoot the messenger.

So you are suggesting that you have to pay 2000 to 4000 pounds a month for rent in the UK???!!

oh sorry - missed ya on that one... you talking about rent?

I was under the impression that "cost of an apartment" meant to buy...

No problem! - we need to remember we are a multinational site and have to be clear when we complain about each other..
