so i feel like i've exceeded the full potential of my d70s, and i'm in the market for a new camera. i have a handful of lenses, and decided if i was to go canon, now would be the time. i'm using a 50mm 1.8, 18-70 3.5, and tokina 10-17mm fisheye. i'm be using my digital for mostly studio stuff, and i guess some street photography as well. so right now i'm asking, should i stay nikon and get a D2X? Or switch to Canon and get a 5d + a few lenses?

Guess what? ... Stick with what you know. It's the only way.
Unless you see there being a benefit to have the full frame sensor I would suggest sticking with Nikon.

You may even consider the D200 and have an extra lens or 2, there is very little difference between the D2X and D200 in a studio situation.

very good call, i was considering the d200 but i wouldnt want to be outdated in a year or two just like with the d70s.

Yeah for once I agre with Mak, you should really be tossing up between the 5D and D200 and save the extra that you would put towards a D2X for some glass. Then the toughest choice you have to make is whether you want to look like a Pro (Canon) or just another amateur (MAK, er, I mean Nikon)..

Just kidding.. the biggest difference between the two are full-frame on the canon and cropped on the Nikon. Obviously goto DPreview.com and look at their massive reviews, and if possible get your mitts on each and try them out..

In what way have you outgrown the D70s? What is it not providing that you need?

im not feeling the 6.1 megapixels as i'm now printing 11x16 photos for school, and its also giving me problems, and many other small things that i'm just not feeling anymore, no pc sync, etc. plus its definitely time for a new camera.

What do you need PC sync for? Go wireless with pocket wizards.
Do you NEED more MP or different workflow to get the prints the way you want them?
I've printed 24x36 with 8mp just fine - so 12x18 and 4Mp would be just as good, pixel density/PPI/DPI wise. You should have no problems - unless it's a lens issue - get (borrow/rent) a great lens and play for a day and see how much of a difference good glass makes.

You say studio, so I assume you're not shooting hi-ISO - cleaner images is a reason to get a canon, but the newer Nikons are pretty good.

It's gonna cost you to move to canon - cheap lenses suck on a 5D, so don't get them, don't even think about it. Canon even re-designed their 16-35 2.8 L lens because it vignetted and was a bit soft on the edges on the FF bodies.

Staying with nikon would be much less costly, and then you could put the money saved toward better glass.

For what it's worth Mluckxxx, My previous camera had a 5.9 megapixel and I had no trouble at all printing 20 x 26. Maybe you need a new printer.

I only see the one lens listed on your profile. I think I'd move in the direction of the better glass and let your camera fall behind a little. The high prices you pay for the latest equipment is used to fund the R&D for the next technology.
