Ooooooooh. . . .even tho I'm pretty wiped out from the portrait challenge. . .I do love these side challenges where you can shoot what you love and then try new things -- and even add big frames :) -- without getting slapped with a DNMC or a 2.
Hmmmm. . . .[thinking and thinking. . . .goes back and forth. . . .]
Ok. I'm in too!

| I have not been entering challenges lately exept for the free studies, and all my shots have been used for my PAD and PAW blogs so I haven't even posted anything here for a while. I would like to give this a try and hope I make the 30 days. |

| Okay, I would like to jump into this also. The one thing I might have to do though is put a couple pictures in a day. The reason why, is because I'm heading out on a two week photography vacation on May 12. Not to get away from photography but to travel to a bunch of places. I'm heading up through the Bryce and the Canyonlands, then up through Utah, Montana and Yellowstone. Then over to Idaho, Washington, Oregon then finally back home to California on the 28th. I plan on filling up a hard drive full of pictures. It will be fun to convert to B&W and share with everybody here. So if everybody doesn't mind me filling in the blanks between Internet hookups count me in. |

So have ya got a list yet? Portrait was a blast (I actually have more like 70-80 portraits :)
Black and White would be great to do too. I would love to learn more about it.
Would Sepia, selective color and such be acceptable? |

usually when the actual 'challenge' starts a new thread is created ... i'm not sure if that will happen with this one .. anyway ... the main purpose of these side challenges is to learn ... well, for most ppl anyway ... you just take photographs with "black & white, any subject or edit you want" in mind .. & we all post our photograph for the day in this thread and make comments and possibly constructive criticisms on each other's work ..

I think I'm going to play along here. It will be my first challenge, so don't be too mean. Ha ha. But I feel I can play in a couple of these side challenges before diving into the real thing.

That's a very good idea, David. You'll be quite surprised at how helpful these side-challenges can be. If one day isn't your best, the next one is right around the corner. And no one will be mean :) |

Well I think if you are not a member, you need to have another site where we can see the pics. Otherwise, we post pics in our portfolio, with a thumbnail here for a link, so everyone can leave comments in your portolio. BUT one does not necessarily need to be a member to do this.
Just take pics, post, view, and leave comments for others. This is different than the regular DPC challenges - no scores here!

I'm getting stoked. What we do once it starts is to post our shot in thumbnail in the thread every day. It'll show up on the newly uploaded, but if it's posted in the thread, then all of us who want to look and comment don't have to search around the front page but just go directly to the thread. I've done it twice with SP's and it's so fun. Plus don't be surprised if a few black and white SPs don't creep in from me. ;~p
Oh, and I think duotones are fine. In most artistic arenas sepia and the bluer black and whites are acceptable.

you are absolutely correct peter!!!!!!:) ... i am totally ruthless and am planning to be even more so in this challenge .. i have written out a list of unpleasant and possibly upsetting things to say on ppls work in case i cant think of anything suitable at the time .. it pays to be prepared i reckon!!:)

Oh Roz it REALLY DID work out for me.
The only down side was that I was on such a roll in the last 30 day challenge and got stopped in my tracks with the dead camera and have seemed to lost my mojo - GRIN!
The new camera and I are getting SLOWLY acquainted (right now it's WAY better than I am) and I was SO looking for a 30 challenge that 'spoke' to me, so I can get back to where I was. The weekly challenges don't tend to pull that out of me - although I seriously want to do them to.
I LOVED the way photography became a priority for me during the 30 day Where I live challenge - I just knew I'd made the committment and that I was going to honor it to myself.
AND you were ALL SO NICE!
So I'm hoping to use this as a kick start to bringing my camera and I together as a team - SMILE!
What are the details people? Are we starting on the 1st of May? |

excellent ... excellent !!! that your camera is WAY better than you .. just imagine that at the end of this 30 days you will have far exceeded its capabilities !! ... and improvement gives such a sense of satisfaction eh? ..
this challenge is basically B&W ... any subject you want ... and any edit you want ... starts 1st may which is only four sleeps away for me .. of course that could be only 3 depending on my insomnia!!!!!!
