Thom Hogan's predictions for the camera world for 2004. These are actually pretty interesting - and probably lots are accurate.

my 2004 prediction:

civil war will break out in the united states around or just after the presidential elections due to Bush BS similar to last time only worse.

I predict Hillary will enter the race later this summer. Then weeks before the election, WMD, Saddam Hussein and Osama Bin Laden will all magically appear. Making the Democrats look like a bunch of whining jackasses. Then again, that's easy to predict.

I was more excited by the camera related predictions...

I predict that if Shrillary Clinton is elected President, I will defect to Cuba.

Dude, that's hilarious! Ah, these are decadently interesting times, no? It's remarkable what people will do for money, eh? Sacrifice innocent youthful lives for oil so a feww qhite men in grey suits can be incrementally richer. Lead an entire nation to believe that offering the lives of their sons & daughters is minimal compared to feeding the hunger of th epowerful & rich. Afterall, this world domination they are talking about, right?
Instead of a prediction, I offer up a wish. I wish I could freeze myself & awake 100 years from now and learn how history has rememberd Bush & these evil times.

Why are we slamming the president again? oh yeah, political agenda. Didn't we just get one of the most vile human beings in power out of office? Isn't putting an end to genocide reason enough for war? I'm not all pro bush or anything, but it makes me sick to think that we helped out people in need and all we can do is beat up the guy who had the b*lls to stand up to the bully.

I hope all you anti bush people seriously consider leaving the country. I hate to think that I vote in the same elections. Let me guess - clinton never did anything wrong in office? You think eastern europe had nothing to do with old men in grey suits? Please.

Think for yourselves - there is a whole different world going on outside of your nightly news...

I want change in the white house next election - but I don't want it by defaming a decent man. how about a report in 100 years that shows the death of respectful patriotic americans who enjoy the freedoms and challenges of the system we call democracy.

I honestly don't try to post anything defamatory myself -- I prefer to keep the argument rational if possible.

However, I have quite opposite impressions of Mr. Bush's character, intellect, integrity, and motivations than you seem to. But that's OK -- unless you've met him yourself, it's all really speculation on both our parts.

What I can't understand about this president is how he can keep a straight face and discourse while being so hypocritical in his acts.

Example: His surprise Thanksgiving visit to US troops in Iraq while he is technically Absent WithOut Leave from his Vietnam era hitch with the Texas National Guard.

Example: He goes to Pittsburgh on a fund raising trip then the next day he stabs the steel industry in the back by ending the tariffs that have allowed it to begin rising off the deathbed.

This guy definitely has gonads.

I have met him, and Dick also, and I can tell you that he is one of the stupidest people on the face of the earth. Dick is the puppetmaster pulling the strings. Has anyone ever seen the movie Nell? Every time he says "Evil Doers" is reminds me of Jodie Foster in this movie, and he sounds about as intelligent.

It's funny how you can say deomcracy and mean it in the same statement where you are essentially inviting people to leave because they disagree with you. You may not like Bush but that's a definite Bushism.
Besides that, what is democratic about a presidency that was bought by your daddy?

Did Bush Sr. & prior presidents care about Saddam's genocide and mass murdering when he was their pal?

And who is watching the nightly news anyway? Certainly not those who believe that Bush is a liar.

Whatever you believe, I defend your right to say it, no matter what.

Throughout history we've seen the likes of Hitler, Stalin and Pol Pot, killing tens of millions of people along the way. Yet time after time the world stands back and lets it continue. Now, a world leader finally has the guts to put a stop to one of these ruthless dictators and he gets nothing but sh** for doing it. He ousted a regime that killed at least a quarter of a MILLION people over the last 20 years! Yet somehow Bush is the bad guy here?

Bush certainly isn't watching. I'll reserve my personal opinions about the man, but I will say that he is, without a doubt, one of the most ill-informed and insulated individuals in this country today. EVERY SINGLE THING he hears about the country and its citizens come from his staff.

The fact that protestors get sequestered into "Free Speech Zones" far, far away from appearances by the man just burns me up. I'm sorry. I thought the whole country was a Free Speech Zone.

Why is it assumed that if people disagree or dislike Bush that somehow by default that that means they support and/or like Saddam? And people aren;t dying in Iraq now, including Americans? He may have ousted Saddam but he sure as hell didnt do it for altruistic reasons. Let's get real!
Bush is a bad guy, he is exactly what he accuses Saddam to be because they are one & the same. But that's just what I believe. And since this is a democracy I can believe anything I want!

Even as a Canadian, I can say for the record that on an international level, I fear the possibility of Bush's re-election far more than any terrorist, simply because I think that the world can be hurt more by this man than by any militant group out there.

My $0.02, nothing more...

If Hillary wins anything, I'll go set up a retail business in Iraq selling US Flags and pro-US bumber stickers... (ie suicidal)

Well, as far as politics go I'm wondering if digital cameras will stop the prosumer line at 6mp and continue to pack in more mp to the professional grade cameras. It seems that Canon simply crippled a few pieces of the 10D to make the less expensive 300D/Digital Rebel. Both can use the same EF lenses and with the exception of some metering and custom functions the 300D seems to be a close 2nd to the 10D in functionality.

Also, I'm looking at how digital is infringing on medium format. A photog friend of mine who shoots Bronica and Mamiya medium formats said that he's investing in a 10D for Christmas because of the quality of the photos as well as the ability to take as many as you want and only print what you like and can salvage. We also talked about the Valeo Digital Leaf back that goes on the Mamiya 645 SLR bodies and he said he'd found it for $11,000. That's 22mp for 11,000 USD. Hmmm, sounds about right until you realize that those 22mp are spread out over 4x5 inches rather than 24x36mm. Doesn't that mean that the medium format with a digital back will actually have less pixel density inch-for-inch than the 300D/10D/1Ds?

So far I can crop a 6mp image and still produce a decent quality large print. I can't imagine what I could do with 11mp crammed onto a 35mm sized sensor.
