What is your favorite lense for your canon (any brand) or favorite two and why?
04/19/2007 07:18:40 PM · #2
OK, I'll bite:

24-70. Accurate, dependable, sharp and quick to focus.

85. Wide aperture and almost unbelievably sharp wide open (as long as you hit the focussing correctly, which can be a little tricky, to say the least).

Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L IS by far!

Ok, i might be biased, but i'm going for 24-70.

I just haven't used it as much as i should have yet, had a lull in enthusiasm recently, thanks to a few problems.

Ditto on the 85mm and I love the Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 as well. That could change soon now that I have the 17-40mm F/4 L

Who on earth gave that a '1'?

I have never used a L lens but if I could choose my favorite at this point it would be the 100-400mm f/4L IS.

And the 5 '2' votes? Seems totally uncalled for.

My Tamron 28-75 F/2.8 is my favorite, but...
The Tokina 12-24 is a close second. Heck of a lens.

In the following order:

Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS
Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM
Canon EF 28-135mm F/3.5-5.6 IS USM

17-40 f4 L

It would be impossible to really choose a favorite. There are several that are just outstanding...

15/2.8 fisheye
24/1.4 L
100/2.8 Macro
24-70/2.8L
70-200/2.8L

Of those, the 70-200 and the 24-70 together are a tremendous combination, and I'd say that between them they get 80% of my shutter clicks. I guess that says something... :-)

i personally like my 50mm Human SUPER AF f/.01 TRIPLE L CIS(complete image stabilization) lens...i paid 9months of my life sitting in a dark wt cave till i could get it...turns out it was buy one get one free

70-200 2.8, preferably with IS - any brand will do, but canon is the better choice. Just a fantastic focal length for so may things.

Second...hard to choose...probably my tamron 24-135 3.5-5.6 - it's a greeat lens, great for studio and walkaround use. super sharp. Would be nice if it was a solid 2.8.

My other lenses all leave me wanting something...

I like my 17-55 2.8 IS, but for it to be perfect it needs to go to 90mm or so.
the tamron 28-75 2.8 is a great lens for close quarters natural light portraiture - the 17-55 isn't long enough. This lens isn't wide enough for most indoor uses.

I just got the 85 1.8 today- I'm not much of a prime guy and the 50 1.8 is borderline junk IMO (sure, it's sharper than the kit lens, but it's inferior to all the other lenses). I got this for one purpose - to make teh BG go away and for extremely shallow DOF - and cause I can't afford the 85 1.2 right now.

I have the 10-22 as well...sucks for night landscapes (you're better off using crayons), but for some things it's just great - wide angle and close up like indoors or similar.

Hmmm... all zooms so far. Interesting.

My favorite lens is my 20mm/f2.8 On a 1.6x body it mimics 35mm, my favorite frame size, and I'm always blown away by the color, contrast and detail that it pulls. If I was forced to only shoot with one lens, it would be the one.

As far as zooms: Well I can't afford the "big boy/girl" glass, but I'm very happy with my 70-200mm/f4L. Light and carry-able (although not really a "street" lens). Optics, speed of focus, and build are all top notch.

Or my mention of the 28mm f1.8

of the 4 lens that I currently have it depends on what I'm shooting for. If its for me there is no doubt I love my 100MM F2.8 macro lens.

If I'm shooting for the paper its the 120-300 2.8 or the 70-200 2.8 depending on what sport I am shooting.

Family shooting its the 24-70, or my dearly departed(I hope Rex is enjoying it) 17-40

... or Kirbic's mention of the 15m f2.8 fisheye.

My favorite = Canon 17-55m f2.8. :)
Followed closely by my 50mm 1.4 prime.

Sigma 105mm F2.8 'cause I love macro shots.

Canon 17-40L F4 lens for my general walk around lens.

100/2.8 macro - great contrast and sharpness, I use it as a walk about tele.

85/1.8 - superb, If it just had a closer focusing distance this would be my favorite.

Carl Zeiss Jena 135/3.5 - Great lens in every way, It's the only lens I use in harsh light, unless I'm looking for insane contrast.

28/2.0 - just a nice lens.

50/1.8 - inexpensive.

I think I just like primes.
