I've been reading the thread about all of us being uninspired lateley, and one person mentioned we should have a challenge that is humorous. So I am throwing out the possibility of putting together a fun, knee slapping, totally out there 30 day challenge. The only requirement is that it has to be funny. Anybody interested? I figure we can start in a few weeks, once I find out what is required, if anybody wants to give this idea a try. Post your names here and we'll go from here. Who do I contact about doing this, if there is enough interest?

June,
I think I'd like to try it out. We'll see what humor I can find while confined to a wheelchair. But I'd like to try out another side challenge, my where I live challenge was cut short.
Thanks.

I say absolutely not. I am diabolically opposed to humor on this site. It is a photography site - no place for horseplay. Serious business. NO funny stuff. Ever. Goofing off is the cause of the decline in productivity, decline in morals, global warming (H=L=CO2), and in some cases, causes spontaneous human combustion.

...how about 30days of sarcasm and dry wit?

Okay, humor, sarcasm and wit. How do you take a picture of sarcasm? Besides, we all know global warming is here to stay, and will be affecting all of our mental instabilility, so why not just be proactive?

Try taking pictures of your neighbors through the back windows of your house. Could be interesting, worked for Jimmy Stewart...

30 days of
Humor
sarcasm
dry wit
mental instability
provocativeness
and
parody

( sounds like a Monty Python marathon.)

LOL I don't have the time to participate but count me in for following the thread and having a laugh from your creativity ;)

Great idea.

My middle name is sarcasm (actually I have my "Sarcasm: Just one more service we offer" shirt on today)

I may have to jump in on this project...

Project Management (I actually have a Director of Project Management in my Co...talk about creating a job role)

Loyalty - Ever notice that you have to feed or throw a party or take employees to a ball game to get any work out of em...heaven forbid they worked first and then you reward them...

I was entertaining the idea of doing a project like the despair stuff a while back these just happen to be on my work pc... the good one are on the home PC.

Well, is this the list? I will start putting names and if you want out, let me know.

AWPollard
Jammur
JerseyGenie
ArtRoflmao
Weegi70
redjulep
thelobster
tnun(no portfolio)
Dantzr (no portfolio)
roz
JunieMoon

Humor is great, but I like the idea put out by Jammur, with a neat list of alternative topics. What ever you do, it has to be a bit whacked and somewhat out there. Twisted even. I know you exist in the dp ranks. I have seen your photos.

Here is one somewhat whacked image. All I need to do is add a few teeth and I have one very twisted piece of whacked floral.

Not well done, but its late and I need to go to bed. So does this seem like a fun thing to get into? clips and graphics can be used, composites, etc.

Thread topic can be "30 day humor project" and you can list all Jammur's altrernative topics - they all fall under humor really anyway.

I am sure you're not talking to me. :)

You can put my name on the list and I will try to come up with something at least every other day. But note that my Feb SP project is 4 shots delinquent and I am behind by about 12 days in the 30 day magic challenge. Now I understand why even though it is not a competition, it is still called a challenge!

Can start at the beginning of May?

Okay, lets sweeten the pot. Let it be a 21 day challenge in 30 days. At the end we will have a tally, most commented, least commented, your best and most favorite, and maybe a few others. Also, some ideas for photos could be a comic strip style, captions under the photo, conversation bubbles, etc.

Hey, im up for my first 30/21 day challenge. Count me in, When does it start?
04/21/2007 06:57:08 PM · #12
I am looking at around May 7 as a start date, but if I get enough responses (maybe about 10) by the end of April, I might go for May 1. Anyway, I will post another official thread.

This is a great idea, JunieMoon! I am in a serious slump and could use a good side challenge. Count me in.

I have been listing ideas for photos on a piece of paper. So I am up to about 20 right now, but not all of them will be within my capability, so I think right now I have about 10 ideas listed that are viable. Still thinking. I am hoping I have a complete list of shots before we begin, then it is just an exercise in application.
Of course, there is the spontaneous approach as I walk around looking for photos. Hope to get a lot of those, too. I will pray to the saints that I have the pics placed before me. You think it will work?

I'd like to be in on this one please

Not sure how this works. A picture every day or every funny day? Seriously. Like to try. Registered User OK?
04/22/2007 12:40:52 AM · #17
Junie... Please include me in on this. Sounds like a ton of fun... a reason to let my perverted and twisted side out. I am terribly new to this so I hope someone can explain how this works. I am also new to digital photography so I don't expect to actually "win" anything, but I want to understand enough to give everyone else a run for their winnings!

I do love this website!!

I certainly think it will work. Keeping track of your ideas like this is a great way to do a project such as this. You might even find that, now that you have thought about these ideas, that the ones you initially deemed not to be viable might, indeed, be achievable once you've had a good think about how to set about doing it.

The way it worked before is when you participate in something like this, you need to be able to post your pics somewhere, then you set the link when you post to here. It is much easier if you have a portfolio at dp. Then you upload your image, and post it to the thread. See the icons at the top? You look at your image id #, then go to the thread you want, highlight the second to the last one (the one that looks like two squares) put in your id# then post. Otherwise, going to a blog or something else, I am not sure how you would carry it to the thread.

You can do it from a blog, but best to at least still have a thumb and a full size image. Post the thumb on DPC and link it to the full image. Best if your external site has the ability to comment on images as well though.

Example:

hey june .. this sounds like the best project .. i actually came to the side challenges to suggest a mega editing project but see that there's so much going on in other projects, like the magic one and the portrait one, that it'd have to be in a couple of months if anyone was interested ??...
i'd be real interested in doing this humour one, and wot a great idea .. but with ppl like ken Art Roflmao in it i could find myself in the hospital .. either that or needing to change my underwear ... so i may have to stay well away from this project ... !!:) ..

Okay, got 10 names. We will commence as of May 1. It will run through May 30, but you only need to do 21 days. Any good ideas for a title? I was thinking something like 21 in 30 of Comic Relief, or something like that. I hope you have some creative ideas for naming this challenge. My idea is kind of boring. Anybody?
04/23/2007 06:09:16 AM · #23
think i'd like to give this a go after all .. i'm gonna go out and buy a few hundred pairs of undies, and i believe there's a humour management course starting on monday that goes for 2 weeks ... so i should be ok by the 1st may ..... (this particular humour management course is designed to enable you to cope with other ppl's humour .. not your own)
edit a few minutes later after i had to answer the phone .... i reckon a humour management course for my own humour wouldnt go astray .... its sooooooooo lame ..:)

either way, get pictures

One question, are we dealing with date sensitive material here?
Do our shots need to but done within the time frame of the challenge, or simply within our career?

I was hoping we could do new images. Of course there is no way to know if you are posting an old image or not. The ideas can be old, if you got a great shot a year ago and want to add a twist to it by retaking, that is okay. Also if you add a clip from one of your old photos, that is okay as well (preexisting artwork) but I know I am approaching it with the intention of taking new images.
These side challenges try maintain the spirit of the dp challenges. New photos within the time frame.
