I teach at a community college and just last week I had a discussion about this kind of stuff in one of my classes. It's just awful that someone feels they have the right to do this to others.

Say a prayer for the victims and the community...

This is so senseless.
Deadliest school shooting in U.S. history. Those poor kids and their families.

CNN is reporting 22, including the killer.

I didnt read anythign except for that the shooter was killed. Did he kill himself because if so it doesnt count.... IMO. But did someone take him down or the police get him or was it suicide.

True, but you wont see his name on the memorial listing, or any plaque/memorial in the school. But yeah i mean even so shame that they even came todo costing lives including theirs.... i dunno what else to say!

NBC is reporting that the gunman killed himself. The shame of it is that unless he left a note, we'll probably never know why.

Drudge report says 32 dead and more in the hospital. Hard to believe one person could do all that. Very sad day.

My thoughts are with all involved.

Yup... CNN is saying 31 now, which may or may not include the gunman.

I'm not very knowledgeable about gun laws, but is it really that easy for someone to get all kinds of ammunition like this? I think on tv they said that the shooter was "heavily armed". I'm just trying to comprehend how one person can kill so many people in such a short period of time.

Virginia, I think has a 48 hr wait, but it is not hard to get guns and ammo here. We also have concealed carry here as well.

CNN just reported this is the deadlist shooting in US history. As a parent who lost a child when he was 19. My heart is breaking for the parents and family of the students and staff that lost their lives today.

Sad sad sad..

I don't think anyone knows just now.

From CNN's front page:
"At least 21 people were killed Monday in a shooting rampage at Virginia Tech -- the deadliest school shooting incident in U.S. history. The Associated Press reports 31 are dead. "Some victims were shot in a classroom," university police Chief Wendell Flinchum said."

I'm hearing from internal sources that the shooter was asian, and was the reason why another asian man was detained briefly before being released. If it was the hall that I think it was, its an extremely steep set of seats, with probably 200+ students

Thoughts and prayers to all involved..hard to understand how terrible these events are.

Gun laws have little to no bearing on violent crime. I live in Canada, with much more stringent gun laws, but I guarantee you if I really wanted to, I could have a handgun before today is over, and pay less than 100 bucks for it. Something automatic might take a little more time and money, but I could definitely get something...

We don't need a note for that... the guy was insane. No note can justify killing 30+ kids. My heart goes out to all the families who were devastated today. :_(
