This is the message I got when I clicked on your link:

Temporarily Unavailable

The Angelfire site you are trying to reach has been temporarily suspended due to excessive bandwidth consumption.
The site will be available again in a few hours

Yup, me too. The dangers of using a free site and linking it on a high traffic site.

Anyone know another place to put the site?

Never had this happen before.

Sorry
Melissa

There was mention here in a thread a while back about an outfit offering a free 3 yr deal. One and One I think was the name. I'll post a link if I can find it.

Yup, that's 1and1.com. I signed up with them but never used it since I already have server space. It does appear to be truly free but you have to let them call you.

my site www.jaelynn.com is hosted by freeservers. There is a free package available but, I upgraded and I pay less than 8 bucks a month. I have been really happy with them.

I have a number of domains hosted with //www.hostrocket.com

You can't beat the deal for the money. The current special is 1GB of disc space and 50 GB of bandwidth for $9.95 per month. As I recall, I didn't look this time closely, you have to pay 1 year to get the lowest price. It's $2 or $3 more for quarterly, and $4-5 more for monthly contracts.

These are Linux servers, and they have PHP, MySQL, and of course, email. The control panel is very nice.

Support is "good", but not excellent.

Regards--Neil

I'm going to be setting up a client's site at //iPowerWeb.com

$7.95 per month is prepaid for the year for a total of $95.40.
800 MB web server space:
40 GB data transfer per month

Very nice site Carrieann...and that sounds like a great place to have a website....Can you FTP your file up to the server? and is the site good for you?
12/04/2003 10:44:52 AM · #18
I also use DotEasy and have for two years. Very dependable and the price is right ...NO pop-ups and good support.
Yes, FTP that is what I use.

It where enough data transfer so your set does not get suspend?
12/04/2003 10:58:23 AM · #20
hi justine. i actually found doteasy through your site and put you as a referrer. i hope you got the credit for that :)

oh and by the way melissa, your site is very nice and the pics are amazing :) i dont think my site has ever been suspended because of too much traffic either. at least not that i have ever seen or been told.

I use //www.freewebs.com you get it free. On the free site you can only post 25 photos in the web album, you'll have to check it out for yourself It has been a long time since I read the rules. I needed addition space for photos and pay $24.95 for 6 months of unlimited space.

I still haven't seen anything that beats 1&1's 3 years of their Professional hosting package for free deal...
12/04/2003 12:56:18 PM · #23
I bought a domain name for $13.00 a year, and host with allhosts.org for $35.00 year, unlimited space and traffic.

If you've got a mac with OS X, it's a lot easier to just use your own computer as a server, since Apache is built in. Just enable "web sharing" in preferences and put website files in library/webserver/documents, and your hard drive is your space limitation.

I wanted a domain name as well, so I just bought one and paid a little extra for them to also provide a DNS, which just identifies my IP with that domain. It's possible to use your mac as a DNS as well but takes a little unix programming, so I skipped that.

That sounds cool Malokata. Wouldn't it require you to have an always-on internet connection?
