I made this remote for my camera for fun and also I didn't want to pay so much for a button with a short cord.

I used this. But it only worked ONCE and I had to be REAL STEADY.

If I was going to make one, it would look like this.

:P

Yours looks cool though, ssodell. So what was your total bill at Radio Shack?

I had the little Sharper Image cooling fan which is the blue casing part which came with one of those neck cooling devices. I used a headphone cord. So I bought two Normally open push buttons and an 8mm (I think) plug, whatever the size that fits the remote hole in the camera. I think it was @ 12.00 Dollars.

Now you need to make yourself one of those neck cooling devices. :)

I don't have a photo of it, but I took a ping pong ball, notched it out with my dremel tool to make a diffuser for my onboard flash.

Well, McGuyver, it would be hard to get a photo of it without a 180° flexible lens! :P

Apparently, nowadays, there are these new inventions. I think that they're called "morrirs' or something like that. I don't know much about them at the moment. It seems like one of these new-fangled things might help in this situation.

I built a circuit that allows me to safely sync an old flash that has a trigger voltage of close to 300V with my D200. I don't have a picture of it, but it doesn't look like much, a little black box with a connector on each end.

I once scotch taped a lego soccer back to my shutter to hold down the shutter. The real remote was in the mail, and surprisingly, the tape worked pretty well.

Built myself a laser trigger that works somewhat well. It's not finished, so it just looks like a tangle of wires... kinda lost interest... and moved... and school...

But that's no excuse... ;)

I also made another a while ago using a tube that originally contained a coil of solder. Two Normally open push buttons and a headphones cord. I use my pinky finger and thumb to operate it. Also had to downsize the connector on the end as you can see.

I also built one out of a 35mm film container for my sister. Don't have a pic of that one.

Look I made a diffuser out of a little bottle.

My wife and I have made two remotes. They actually work on voice command. All I have to do is arrange my setup and set the focus. When I am ready to shoot all I have to do is say "Now" and my remotes will go off as many times as I command. It is quite the setup. Not cheap though, but fairly reliable.

Now this is a bit of a stretch don't ya think? I remember it going more like:
"Now Aidan - hit it - c'mon hit it buddy - yeah that - hit it - pleeeeease - I'll give ya a lollypop!"

so you have some reliability issues. :P

Making these remotes is the best part too. It may take some practice over months or years but usually when you least expect it BAM a remote/lawnmower/dishwasher/slave is born.

I haven't made any myself (though I keep my skills honed just in case) although I did get 2 second hand remotes someone else made.

That was a great set up to your pictures link of the kids. I was really thinking you had some kind of technical voice dial type sensor. Then I laughed pretty good, Thanks.

We launched a video camera (inside a pumpkin) with our home made melon musket one time. It didn't survive the launch, as the recorder stopped when we triggered the musket. We had to rewind the tape into another cartrige by hand when we picked up the pieces down range. It was a failure, but it went over 1000 ft, so does that count as a remote?
Good laugh Kw. : )

So no circuits, no resistors, no power? Just a switch and two wires? Does it matter which wire goes to which connector on the putton?
