I know that the photo is blown out across the nose, this seems to happen to me a lot and I am not sure why. I try to position the external flash so that it bounces the right way. Any tips for that? Please leave comments, I know I need to improve! Thanks guys!

If you are using an external flash on the hotshoe with no diffuser (e.g lumiquest ultrasoft) this may have something to do with it. Also, the angle of the photo (looking down on the boy) is probably contributing. If his head is tilted down slightly, it can make a world of difference with a flash bounced of the ceiling.

Thanks and I will look into a diffuser.
