I'm designing a website in imageready and desperately need to know how i can do a concealable navigation bar like this one.

If anybody know this it would help me a lot.

Thanks

Java Pure Java Applet has been the most compatible way todo it microsofts first had it ont heir site i believe in 97 when they did the first major redo since IE came out.

Im not sure how they do it here there are some similar ways todo it with java script and back int he day DHTML was supposed to introduce it but support never went very far.

Also ActiveX controls can do it.

Well your gonna have to learn some scripting. Or hire someone todo it for you. This isnt something thats gonna pop out of an Adobe/Macromedia Product without some real work. Although some of those products make design implementation easier.

You cant fake it all day long eventually you have to get your hands dirty.

Wrong! :)

Macromedia Fireworks can do it, easy peasy :) You place your mouseover image hotspots like you would in Dreamweaver, then there's an option to make a dropdown menu in javascript. You just type in what you want the options to be, set all the colours, and hey presto! :)

There are tons of ways to do this. There are scripting ways, and the fancy flash ways, and the hey I don't know nuffin the program does it all for me ways...

I have used coffeecup menu maker before, and I have done scripting ways before and stuff. Just really depends on the exact effect you are looking for, to the way you are doing it.

Thanks for all the reply. It look to me like I'm gonna have to learn some scripting because I want the drop down menu to fit my design. Just too tired to start looking for tutorials and JAVA lesson tonight. Thanks a lot.

when you are not too tired, lol, the best website for free tutorials such as this is honestly //www.tutorialized.com

if you decide to try to make it in flash I believe that it is //www.kirupa.com

I am pretty experienced in flash. If I can answer any questions for you, let me know through email... good luck!

That's called a drop down menu & you can find tutorials for that if you google it. In fact, I learned how to build websites by simply googling tutes for whatever app I was using. You can find video tutes as well that are even easier to follow.

I bet Adobe has some on their site.
Good luck.

Version: Updated Feb 23rd, 05' to version 1.11

Description: jsDOMenuBar is a cross browser horizontal menu bar based on the script jsDomMenu. It supports unlimited menu bar items, can be set to be draggable, and positioned either absolutely or relatively. jsDOMenuBar is 100% HTML/XHTML valid, and is fully customizable through CSS.

Some of the features of jsDOMenuBar are:

Tested and works in many browsers. Some are outlined below:
Mozilla 1.x
Mozilla Firebird 0.7
Mozilla Firefox 0.8 - 0.9
Netscape 7.x
Opera 7.23 - 7.51
Safari 1.x
Camino 0.8
Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 - 6
Supports unlimited menu bar items.
Font, colour, background colour, styles, etc, of menu bars and menu bar items are fully customizable through CSS.
Switch to an alternate stylesheet to change the theme of the menu bars and menus without reloading the page (in NS7/ Mozilla)
100% HTML/XHTML compliant. You do not need to insert any additional HTML tags such as
. No document.write() or document.writeln() used.
Configure whether the menu bar is draggable.
Configure whether the menu bar is absolutely positioned, fixed positioned (does not move with the page during scrolling), or static (exactly where you put it on the page). New!
Supports optional icons alongside select menu items. New!
Works in frames.
Demo 1: Look at the top of the page.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Directions: Download the following zip file, and refer to "docs/index.htm" for installation instructions.

jsdomenubar1_1_1.zip (right click, and select Save As).

Configuring the menu

Inside the above zip file you'll find comprehensive documentation and demos by the author on how to set up jsDomenuBar. Furthermore, we've added an extra "dynamicdrive" folder, which is self contained, and illustrates how the demo on this page was put together.

Upgrading from version 1.0.1

To upgrade from version 1.0.1, you'll need to replace your existing .js files with the new ones. For your menu structure, the key function "menuObj = new jsDOMenuBar()" has changed in terms of accepted parameters, so you'll need to modify this function per the included instruction.

Enjoy!
