I had this idea the other day when I saw a short program on TV about Monet, the painter. I think it would be an interesting project to think about.

Pick a spot of natural beauty (or just somewhere outside if you want) that is easily accessable to you. One day in January, go there, and take a photo. Remember where you were and what time you took the photo. If you took the photo on Jan 4th, go back to the same spot and take another photo on Feb 4th. You could print out your January photo as a reference so you can get in exactly the same place. Do the same on March 4th, April 4th, etc, right up to December. It doesnt have to be the exact same day, but the nearer the better.

It will be interesting in a years time to see everyone's collections. If the photos are good, you can use them to make a 2005 calendar, a perfect gift for Christmas :)

I'm going to give this a go, and I'd like to see other people's series' too at the end of next year.

I've only taken two, about 6 months apart:

' ' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/669/thumb/48992.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/669/thumb/48992.jpg', '/') + 1) . '

Great shots, and a great example of the type of thing I mean. :)

Thanks. I didn't pay too much attention taking the second, so they're not quite as close as I would have liked.

I'll have to scope out some good sites over the next month for January. :-)

Neat idea Konador. Site selection seems to be the key to an interesting series. Glad you gave a month to think about it.

Great idea Konador - I'm going to do it! :-)

Not attempting to steal thunder at all - but I thought exactly the same thing earlier this week! It's a great idea and I'll definitely have a go too.

Really like your two shots Paul. But why the hell isn't the second one taken from exactly the same place? It's just unacceptable. ; )

<sniff> I'm sorry. ;-)))

Thanks Jon. And thanks for your comment - even BEFORE I posted the pic!

that is an idea i like. a real eye opener on how scenes change over time, usually so gradual it is never noticed. a very note worthy idea

I actually thought about doing this a year ago when I first got my digital. I was gonna do the same thing with my house only on a weekly basis and email to my mom so she could see the neighborhood...

I am lazy, i have made it from my window, it is quite interesting too and i can see trees. There are 2 weeks between.

Really cool idea, Konador. Can you post a reminder come January? And then each month after that? lol I'm very forgetful. ;-) I can't wait to see all of your images. Should be a fun project!

wow! that's a really great idea, Ben! i'm definitely gonna give it a try.

Good idea Ben. I already have something like that going. I call it the "La-Z-Boy" project to track how my son is growing and changing. Samuel was born on September the 10th. I'm going to take a picture him on my La-Z-Boy chair on every 10th day of the month. Here it is:

very good idea punkin! i like the fact that it makes me think in terms of more landscapish photography--of which i have virtually none.

I'll try. :)

Why not make it a challenge? ;)

Hey Ben,

I'm in. This sounds like a great idea to me. :-)

After a couple of Cuba Libre's I have an even better idea:

Make a selfportrait on each first day of the month in exactly the same setting. See yourself grow old. :)

I've done something similar based on a layout I saw in a magazine years ago (I think it was Life). A father took his infant daughter to sit on Santa's lap shortly after she was born, then took her again every year for 18 years. He only stopped when Santa pinched her on the bottom. I took my first daughter (and now my second) to get pictures taken on Santa's lap every December 16th since they were born. I still have a while to go till it's finished, the older one is just 13. Eventually I will have to figure some way to mount them in a single frame.

Kostia, that is amazing. To see the years fly by like that and the changes. The kids grow up real fast, as I know, but to have a record. Wonderful.

Thanks for posting that, kostia. It's really cool. I'm impressed that they were disciplined enough to do it every year for that long. It's amazing how much people change in only one year. Thanks again.

Great find Kostia. Not too hard to see a family resemblance in the brothers, lol. In all of them really.
