That's a pretty ignorant thing to say especially when you consider that you live in Akron.
Talk about an armpit.
You obviously aren't very familiar with Cleveland as St. Clair and MLK would be an opportunity for some, how shall we say, gang photojournalism?

Just saw your reply after I posted.
Sorry to hear your buddy's misfortune.

Hey, hey, hey......Careful what you say about Akron. Frankly, I love Northeast Ohio. All of it. Especially Akron. Lived and been to many other places in the US and world, but it will always be the place I return to. IMO it is the perfect little city. Big enough to have everything I want, small enough to never worry about traffic or being crowded. Frankly, I can't wait to get back to the AKRowdy. I like Cleveland and Columbus too, in fact the location of Akron in regards to those cities is one of the best things about it. People always want to leave Ohio, but most end up coming back....I did.

Does anyone know anything about Newark? Are there any points of interest there that I should check out?

HA! Newark's our high school rival...I'm not really sure what's there though.

Does anyone have any idea what time we'll be done shooting? I have a shoot in cambridge at 9pm so I might duck out a little early. See you guys there!

I am going to try and have a plan for the trip by Tuesday. What I was thinking was having two places picked out that we will definitely hit and then two or three other options depending on time. That way we can be sure to hit two of the better places while the larger group is together and then play it by ear depending on time and energy afterwards. Sound good?

sure-sounds great

What places did you have in mind? Rose Lake is a nice place, but mostly during the morning or during peak colors. If you check out my website: www.endeavorphoto.com you can see some of my shots from Hocking Hills on my last trip to Rose Lake. Any time frame in mind at all?

OK - This is what we had in mind. Please remember that we have never been to any of the places I am suggesting, so it shoudl be brand new for most of us.

We will be arriving in the area around 9/9:30. The three locations I thought would be the most interesting are Cedar Falls, Old Mans Cave, and Rock House. It sounds like these three alone could easily fill up a day. I am going to throw this out to the experienced Hocking Hills people here just to make a confirmation that these would be good places to hit. What we will do is select the first stop and then plan for lunch before heading to the second location. It looks like most of these areas have picnic spaces. Hopefully we can grab one.

Let me know what you all think. We will probably stay until 5pm or so all dependning on how long our friends will keep our kids.

Hey there...I'd say Old Man's Cave is a great starting point. Time sounds great and I can bring some veggies and my world famous brownies!! All three places are great. I'm no expert on the area but it is doable in a day. Can't wait to see everyone!!

SOunds good Gayle.

The Ohio DPC GTG will meet at the parking area of Old Mans Cave in Hocking Hills. Aimee and I will plan on being there just before 9:30am. We will start heading back around 9:45/10am. I am guessing that we will spend close to 2 hours at OMC and have lunch after that. I think there is a picnic area right there. The next stop will be at Cedar Falls and then finally to Rock House. Please post here to confirm your attendance and I will then PM you our cell phone number for contact that day if needed. I am not sure what some of you look like so forgive me if I dont recognize you right off the bat. But odds are you will recognize me. Just take a look in my portfolio. Plenty of image sources there.

Looks like the weather should be awesome. We are really REALLY looking forward to this trip and we hope you all can make it.

I'm about 90% sure I'll be there. I've been back & forth on this numerous times lately, as there are a ton of other things going on here this weekend, too. But I'm strongly leaning toward going.

Cool! Maybe you guys/gals can give me some pointers on this type of shooting. I'm 49 and 11/9 % sure I'll be there. I guess the whole point is meeting some of you and learning … as well as visiting somewehere I've wanted to go for a while.

I will be there! I was thinking I would have to leave early, but 5pm sounds great! And it's probably a good thing we're going to OMC first because the crowds will gather quickly, making it harder to get a shot of anythng. My cell phone number is 740-243-1208. I somewhat know the area-mostly old man's cave and rose lake though. So feel free to call me if you get lost, etc. Please send me that PM tim and aimee. I'll probably be the youngest there, so just look for 6' tall college student :) I hope to see you all there! Alan, it's nice to see you can probably make it!

How far is Old Man's Cave from Polaris? We have decided that since I will be in Newark on Friday, we are going to turn this into a family weekend in Columbus visiting my brother and my SIL. I'm trying to figure out what our schedule is and with the kids running around, it is pretty likely that I would not come because they are not too patient when I am taking pics.

I was going to see what hubby's plans were and if he were to take the kids somewhere, I might be able to sneak down for a bit.

I'll let you know by Thursday evening once I get an idea of how far we are talking about. Thanks!

Hey Michelle - I think it would take you about an hour and a half from Polaris. We are just 15 minutes or so from Polaris and we are budgeting just over an hour for our trip. Hope you can make it!

Aimee and I were talking and thought we would throw this out to anyone who might be interested. We live in North Columbus just South of Westerville. We will be dropping our kids at the sitter at 8am and then heading out. We are driving our minivan and could take along 2 people with us if anyone wanted to save on some gas money. Shoot me a PM if you are interested and we will see what we can work out.

Sure! Can you swing by Pittsburgh on the way? ;)

I was just at the Yough Dam with my wife's nieces husband's daughter (great-niece-in-law). If I knew I could have stopped and picked you up then :-)

I'm really excited about going to see another House of Rock, besides the one here near Lake Erie (Rock Hall Museum), the Rock House

I will be also bringing some Non-Edible props.
Feel free to bring props, if interested.

I would love to go, if only a month later. I have my twins (they live out of state, I only get them once a year) until the middle of july and I am only doing things I can do with them. Maybe next time for me.

That's where I first learned to waterski!

On another subject... any suggestions for what to bring to eat? I was going to bring my wife's Famous Brownies, but I see that option has already been chosen :)

What's everyone else bringing?

Some things to consider about old mans cave.

If you are not in good health or get out of breath easy, this is not the trek for you. Going down is easy, but going up is between 70-85 degrees and it can be a chore for some (I love the place, hoping to get there in July or Aug) but id hate to see the rangers hauling anyone out.

Second, It gets busy so the earlier the better for you all.

Third, its easy to get lost, iv known several people that could not find there way out and ended up a few miles from where they intended on exiting the area (I did that at Ash Cave).

Fourth, take plenty to drink. There is only one place to buy anything at OMC.

I have plenty of experience in the area, so PM me any questions.

Photographically, you may want a ND filter and/or a polorizor. It can get bright in places and to get the nice long exposure shots of the water falls, you will need it.

Here is our current food list -

Tim & Aimee - Brisket
Gayle/Buckeye Fan - brownies and veggies
Tate/Metatate - chips and salsa

Fruit and salads would be good options. Also if I can get someone to commit to bringing paper plates, napkins and plastic ware that would be great. And Alan - you could always bring more brownies. I dont think there could ever be too many brownies. ;)

I pretty much know which DPCers will be attending but how about a proper head count including spouses.

I'll take care of that. If my wife is up to it, I'll see if I can swindle brownies out of her, but she's been kinda sick all week.

Oh, and it'll just be me, for head count purposes :)
