The looooooooong waiting is over, Nikon UK service sucks bigtime and after the sent it home once with the same fault!!!!!!! I gave it back to them with a flea in their ear and after just 10 extra days it is HOME AND FIXED.....

Service in Japan was absolutely brilliant, back home in my own country UK it is totally unacceptable. even though it is fixed and Im happy for that, the camera was left dirty with grubby finger marks all over the body and screen and the rubber (must of taken it off) has not been put back 100% nicely. When i get back HOME to Japan I will get the Nikon center there to fix it up properly and I am certain they will do it for FREE AND APOLOGISE...

Marac; What was wrong with your D200? I sent mine out for repair for an electrical glitch it was experiencing. It took 6 weeks to get it back, and I was told they found no issue. Went to shoot the next day, and It would go into bulb mode when set to S or M. I took it back to my dealer and got a new Camera body after some serious complaining. Our Service centers over here are not much better.

What was happening was when i set my 17-35mm lens (NON G series has a manual aperture ring) to f22 lock mode the D200 would produce an fEE error, it was fine with my VR G series lenses (those with no aperture ring) They sent it back claiming they had cleaned the sensor... the fault was still there.. now i went out today and shot into the sky at f32 and have just discovered a nice scratch on my sensor as well as a few (very few) dust bunnies... I am TOTALLY ANNOYED by this and will call them about it personally.

Is that really a scratch or a dirty mark?

Have you tried a wet clean of the sensor?

I just tried doing a DRY wipe on the sensor and it has come up SPOTLESS.. so Im very chuffed about that but the thing that really bugs me is that Nikon UK stated in their first repair sheet that they had CLEANED the bloody thing, yet after seeing that crap on my sensor it gave me a heart attack.. all good now though.

I just ordered mine online for 1200 USD and had the guy at J&R courier the camera to me the same day. Talk about service ! J&R offered a good deal, but 1200$ for body only too steep of a price? I don't think so.

That's less than what I paid, but not by too much or I'd be peeved ;-)

I can't imagine having to send my D200 away, never mind having it come back dirty! Geesh. I was having intermittent problems with it suddenly saying the battery was dead when I knew it wasn't. I could hit it and the sensor would correct itself, but frankly it hurts to hit a D200 repeatedly!! So I got a new battery from SterlingTEK and the problem vanished. Much less stressful than having to part with my camera.

could plugging the camera to your PC while it's on damage info on the card or the cam itself?
