I am actually voting on other challenges

What is an average score when you like something but it doesn't have that extra something. What if a photo is really good, but doesn't fit the challenge as well as some. What if it doesn't fit the challenge at all. One of my instructors said that a lot of thought should be given to the composition as well as the title that you give a photo. Obviously these are important, but are they just as important as the quality of the photo?

It's a Free Study so everything should fit the challenge.

No one can answer that for you. Trying will only start flame wars. Once you've been here awhile, you figure out a system that works for you and that's that.

Thanks, just want to give photos what they deserve.

Please remember though that in a "Free Study" there is no specific topic, so all entries by definition "fit" the challenge. If, on the other hand, you're talking about how well composition, title, and technical quality fit together, then, you need to apply your own best judgment.

I realise that, I also received a DNMC1 in the free study, I am currently voting in other challenges.

Ah, allright, I thought you meant this challenge. The DNMC - 1 was a prank (April Fool's Day), and it's being changed by the "prankster".

Just wanted to add if you folks dont believe the pic is real just ask for it to be verified, and score it as if you believed it to be real.

Looks like April Fool's still isn't over. The 1 I just received lowered me by 0.05.

Hey. . .I must have too. My score dropped a bunch after one vote too. Darn! See? this IS a vindictive challenge, isn't it.

I think this is only my 2nd free study over a 6 so I'll take it. Believe me, I appreciate what I have!

Just finished voting, and I have to say, this time the Free Study just looks different. A lot of moody photos and a lot of experimental processing. I actually loved voting this one. I've been hanging around in Holga forums lately, and bringing that viewing experience here was refreshing. The photos I loved most tended to be well-captured moments. They weren't technically perfect, but the timing was spot on. Or they were a little more experimental, a bit outside the stock-influenced fare we tend to see. For some the imperfections that DPC typically would pick on were precisely the things that I loved about them. I was compelled to comment more than I have done lately (overloaded with school). Some of it was bad, some of it blew me away, and those extremes both seemed to happen more with this one. It looks like most people stepped outside of their comfort zone and DPC just doesn't know quite what to do with that.

Anyway, thought I might comment on my voting experience, see if it resonates with anyone else.

I'm just below a 5.6 right now, and after seeing what's out there that feels about right.

I got a 3.8 on day one and it wasn't a joke apparently. I've climbed up a couple tenths of a point though! Happy to see that you've gone far past that range!

No ribbon, but might just keep me close enough to Larus in the Marathon

My guess is copycat. My original was "dnmc 1", without the caps, and the prankster probably copied and pasted.

Okay my dnmc 1 has been removed and replaced with supposedly a 6 vote, strange thing is that my score hasnt changed and is still 5.2xxx. With about 100 votes a jump from 1 to 6 should have changed my score by how much, it is too early in the morning for me to work this out so I am going to rely on you mathamaticians to help me out here.

Thanks guys.

It would have changed it by less than a tenth since 5 is so close to 5.2, so it would hard to notice without tracking all digits.

Yippe!!!! My score is finally above a 4. Now to see if it'll beat my best score of 5.4. I'm not picky :)
