I got my comment revision from Raish - thanks! It was a lovely comment.

Well, I only got a 5 out of Raish, but I claimed the next tenth in the score...

Slowly getting through them now, and I am actually being quite generious in my votes, so as to help make up for the low scores, so many are getting, so I hope I have helped your image to improve somewhat.

Up to a 40% vote, and a 15% comments so far, and still have a long way to go.....

Yeah, I only got a 5 too. I'm still in shock that my score is so low. Crawling into a hole now.

I also received a fiver :)

And my score is sinking faster than george clooney's boat in The Perfect Storm.

Okay- I'm Guessing that not many of you have voted on 100% of these. Not to over generalize or anything- but after scoring 560 of these things (mine not included) several things become apparent.

-You get sick of seeing flowers (although bravo to many of them)
-You get sick of seeing birds (I guess it's a spring thing)
-If it’s out of focus (or soft focus), the score is dropping (I know it sucks- it’s currently happening to mine)
-If you get a comment- any comment- the person means it- at 560 photos- I only left comments on 16- and even those comments are pretty short (although hopefully helpful).
-It becomes more about voting on every photograph, than voting each carefully.
-If it’s B&W- I better see both black and white and all gray photo will take down your score.

After seeing SO many photographs, the only way I could vote fairly- was to go through them all again. See if everything in the 5 category actually felt average to me (yea I know- but for me- everyone starts at a 5 you go up or down from there).
Then check out of 4’s, then check out the 6’s. And so on and so forth. I had one picture marked as a 5 that got bumped to 6 and then when looking through the 6s got bumped to 7. The photograph stuck out- but only against the rest of the crew.

A lot of shifted around.

Now- I spent a solid 4 hours voting today, perhaps more (I did have to get some work done).

I am no longer complaining about lack of comments or low scores, I sympathize with the people that have voted.

In fact- can I get an extra point for all my efforts? ;)

P.S. There are some great shots- and despite my own score, I feel I scored others' pretty high.

I am amazed when anyone votes on 100% of these challenges...
I find it challenging to vote at all anymore, am finding the shots from challenge to challenge too repetitive..but am voting on this one, and will try to give out a few comments too...
I have had a general rule that I will always try to give at least as many comments as I get. So far so good.
Some great shots out there...

Hang in there dear Judy, as so many are getting low scores, much lower than usual.
I just wish April Fool day never happened.....
You have such amazing talant, and you have a beautiful, portfolio that so many admire, so please take heart, and look forward to the next challenge.
I like to see this challenge disappear forever into dust, actually vanish would be a good word for it......

I have been bumping scores most of the day, but my score is static.

I thought that this submission was better than my October free study shot and its sooo much lower. Further...I am stuck at this score. I may have to self-dq this picture. It deserves better fate than a 4.9.

Ouch ouch ouch! Some grumpy voters have come along and handed out some 3's and 4's in the last few hours

:;sigh::

I'm quite at a loss. I still have the DNMC 1 comment and my score has hardly budged.

They're getting around to rephrasing and revoting. Mine changed just a bit ago. I think the person who did this didn't realize how much work it would be to undo all those votes of 1 and "dnmc - 1" comments :)

IMVHO, the voting isn't much different from normal. After all, we always think that we deserve a much higher score than what we're getting :)

Yeah, you would, would you :) [ursula shakes head] Me too, I always deserve at least a 7, and these voters just don't get it.

I deserve at least a 4.
(And yes, I'm being serious....)

Alas, I fear I am truly getting the score I deserve. Doesn't bode well for future entries.

Score and beauty of the image sometimes have little to do with each other :) And I just love it when people say, "Alas, ...." (sounds so Tolkien like).

Maybe I need to re-read LotR (for the fourth time) and spend less time shooting for challenges. I'm thinkin' my enjoyment factor would be MUCH higher.

But to say score doesn't matter or correlate here kinda belittles those that do well. Some of us just aren't DPC material, or at least can't shoot it or process it. Doesn't mean we can't participate - I enjoy shooting for challenges, voting, commenting, and reading the forums. I think I'll just skip the submission part for awhile. Think of the time and effort I'm saving the voters! One less 3 or 4 to hit while voting... :-)

This sums up something I've been trying to put into words for a while. Thanks :-)

No, I didn't say score doesn't matter. On the other hand, yes, there are times when score doesn't correlate to the image, although IMO much less often than people like to think. Why that is, why they don't correlate sometimes, I don't know. People have said it's because the images are not mainstream, or too artsy, or a number of other things - it's probably a combination of factors.

Not DPC material? I don't know, the first thing that comes to mind is, if everyone shot according to the "DPC success" formula, it certainly would be a boring place.

I don't know, Deb, I know that I enjoy looking at your images. :)

The Free Studies are tiring to vote on though. It's hard to vote on a set of images where there are together portraits, candids, macros, landscapes, abstracts, all sorts of stuff - and so many of them.

I feel like this also Deb, as my Free Studies never, do well as any of my other images.

I think it is because I try to hard sometimes, and don't really see what I am entering. I think I go with my heart to much, and not my brain.

Free studies really have to have the "WOW" factor I think, otherwise they seem to miss the boat, re scores. You have done so well lately, and I love what you do, so please continue to do what you do best.

Look through that lens of yours, and you will capture the moments like you have previously have done. I have so much confidence in you, so don't let me down sweet girl.....

I appreciate the wisdom of these words and thank you for them.

Please note that I don't think I deserve a higher score and didn't mean to imply such in my comment (did I use that word "higher" exactly)? I do think it odd that my score hasn't moved either higher or LOWER and perhpas should have stated so in my comment. I felt I was a pretty good sport about the whole April Fool's idea, and appreciate the overall good spirit of the jest.

IMVHO: DPC has been very good to me and provided many unique photographic opportunities, but am alone in thinking this particular challenge presented challenges other than photographically speaking?

If so, then your patience is a virtue and I stand as an island.
