Any other theories ?

You could be onto something there

My DNMC 1 comment has changed to...Right then, joke's on me as I now have to plough through 564 images and bump them all (yes, all of them) up. There'll be a third run through for fine tuning.

Poor Langdon

It wasn't Langdon unless the user name says Langdon.

How is it that if the joke is about April fools day, and the Free study scores, that the entries in the other challenges have also gone for a dive, if the scores can be manipulated like this how do we trust DPC regarding results from now on.

I don't understand. Are you saying today you realized the admins had the ability to manipulate their own site?
04/01/2007 03:19:32 PM · #331
Brian, I wouldn't worry about it. The "score" manipulation is no doubt the work of our very dear founder who can back out the code used to wreak such havoc. I fully trust voting to be back to normal tomorrow, complete with the usual trolls who probably felt a bit out of place on a day like today. It's nothing to lose sleep over, in my opinion. Just a little light-hearted fun to remind us all that this should, above all else, be fun!!

So, why vote them low at first? Because your vote was low? Maybe your votes should not be counted.

Blimey! I hope so, that would be a new personal best for me!

My Still challenge photo has gone down from 5.8 to 5.3 while all this has been going on.

I will not be casting any votes until this is sorted, I'm off for a brisk walk, and catch some fresh air, maybe this will have fixed itself when I return in a couple of hours.

No the scores are real. Also anything under a 5 will get DQed for not meeting minimal standards of decency.

What was it that Moulder used to say on the X Files?

"Trust No One"
"Deny Everything"

That's my motto in life from now on!

I love jokes and pranks they pulled several of them and got me on most of them from the get go with the internal fault one at midnight. To me the score thing was really not funny not just for me but for many. Someone who has 10 blue ribbons can laugh this off but someone who struggles day and night to think about concept, skill and how to put out a good photo that is appealing maybe does not see the joke in it. If my boss said April fools I am not paying you on Friday I really couldnt be happy.

Well, I don't know. I think a bit of fun doesn't hurt anyone. And I would disagree that someone with a lot of ribbons would find it less annoying than someone with no ribbons (some of these people with a lot of ribbons are very, very competitive, and you better not mess too much with them, they get really mad you know).

I think it would be good to just laugh and wait until tomorrow, have a bit of fun, play along.

And some people (me) only get ribbons due to lucky shots and still do rubbish most of the rest of the time! :P

If you keep DPC records outside of DPC you can work out your real score...

My FS entry shows scoring as:
Votes: 65
Views: 77
Avg Vote: 5.5385
Comments: 5
Favorites: 0

Before this challenge my average was 5.6048 and it now shows as 5.6108 which implies my FS is really scoring at 6.6029 with 65 votes.

I'm happier with a 6.6 than a 5.5 :)

I am with Melethia here, those of you who are stressing about this, lighten up, relax, and if it makes you feel better turn off your score visibility until tomorrow - you never know, you may even find it liberating! And to Langdon et al and to the DNMC bag-head, good one!

Your photo "A thousand times...No" happens to be in my featured photos list and I've been admiring it for a while now (not my own...mind you!).

Yes, I look forward to winning 10 blue ribbons and complaining about April Fool's day jokes. Until then, I'm having a great time...;-)

This is the only thing that concearns me with this joke, some people may not know of the joke and will influence others images accordingly.
04/01/2007 03:46:42 PM · #346
Well, I'm quite certain the Spinning scores are part of the gag too, so I'm breathing a sigh of relief.

I got 4 comments including the "DNMC 1" so maybe I'm onto something good.

Some people need to buy a sense of humor.

I hear that they're cheap on ebay at the moment. I think maybe someone's collected up all the lost ones and is selling them as a job lot.

If so many people don't find this funny it probably isn't.

Same here. But probably not as good.

When I first joined this site I really liked it, but the longer I am here the more discouraged I get. So far the most fun I have had is in a 30 day challenge that was not scored. For the free study I submitted what I thought to be one of my best shots so far in my very amateur career. I have no problem whatsoever if other people don't think so, I like constructive criticism, but this shot is averaging under a 4 and the only comment I've had so far is "dnmc 1" HOW IN GOD'S NAME CAN YOU NOT MEET THE CHALLENGE IN A FREE STUDY?!?!?!?!?
I did happen to notice the voter was hidden during voting....
