Now that I've spent $2,100 on a lens, and another $150 on a bag, I get home to the news that the wife's car needs $2,000 worth of repairs (something to do with the clutch).
We've also got $2,000 worth of new basement windows coming, and the wife REALLY wants a $2,000 shed, and the lawns sodded, which if history is any indication, will cost... $2,000
... and of course it's tax time.
Bahahhahaaaa, I'm going insane!!! Somebody turn it off!

At least the weather's supposed to be decent tomorrow and I can try out my new bag. :-)

Theres this thing, when the warranty is up sell the car. The downside is u never get to have liability again.
Lets take a ford dealer for instance labor charged is 90 per billable labor hour. The mechanic makes between 15 to 30 an hour out of that. Not to mention your paying a 40% markup on your parts.

Buy a $500 car. when it dies, take off your plate and junk it. Buy another...
Not a classy ride in the bunch, but the cheapest way to get around. I got 5 years and 60k miles out of my last $600 car, which cost me maybe $900 more in repairs...but then I do the work and often install used parts - hey, everything on the car is a used part anyway.
You can get a car to 120k miles with little cash outlay for repairs these days. Then prepare to spend $3-5000 (all sorts of things will break now - radiator, clutch, ball joints, struts, window regulators, brake calipers, perhaps a transmission, tires, exhaust, etc).
then you can get to 180-200k with little hassles.
If you drive a lot, and a lot of highway you may stretch these numbers a bit, but it's the design life of cars these days.
Best deal is a 2 year old car. I got an 04 taurus 2 weeks ago, my 93 with 185k finally dying (alternator) on a week i needed to leave town so the new car has 25k miles and was $9500. A new one or a fusion is $22,000...25k miles is like new when the difference is $12.500...which is more than we spend on our 03 windstar (37k miles) last fall.
My one friend got a base mustang for 19.900 and another just bought an 07 altima tonight...$489/month for 5 years, with $5500 cash down. Ouch.

What spec is a fusion? The only ones I have ever seen are RWD, have a V8 & decals for head lights.
In Australia, your basic family sedan (in the Ford camp, a Falcon) is worth about $35k (US$30K), but that comes with a 4L 6cylinder motor & rear wheel drive.
I gotta agree about buying an older car. 2 years ago I bought a 99 Falcon, with 70k KM on the clock for about $10k. Apart from services & tyres, it has had 2 new brake rotors & a water pump, which comes in around the $500 region. While I would love to buy a new car, the drop so much money as soon as it leaves the yard. |

Everyone has a certain amount of money, from which they decide what to spend where. So much for camera equipment, so much for entertainment, so much for gambling and booze, and then the other things like house, car, utilities, etc.
Or maybe its the otherway. House, car, utilities, then ...
