I was asked to take a photo for a billboard and I was just wondering about billboard photographs. I have the Nikon D80 its 10 megapixel.. so would the picture be alright for that? I just don't want to take a job that I wouldn't be able to take a good looking photograph for. If any of you know anything about billboard photographs, I'd appreciate the advice. Thanks! |

Rasterizing the images into spaced out dots which appear to not exist from a distance help expand an image to greater proportions.
Chances are they are gonna take care of rasterizing the image with their printing company.

Found this with a bit of searching...
Depands on the subject and also who is actually producing the bill board. As a rule of thumb your digital file needs to be 1/10th the size of the finished bill board at 300dpi. If your bill board size is 60x132" your digital file to the bill board producer needs to be 6x13.2" @ 300dpi. Talking to the producer first avoids problems later.
That would be about 30 dpi. I also saw on the same thread the number I'd heard before which was about 12 dpi. |

my experience has been to provide 300dpi files sized to 12" on the longest side, saved as jpg12. the production company takes care of everything else. |
