maybe we should have a "contrition" challenge :\

i find a ton of inspiration at this site, and have a ton of shots in my faves as images to emulate. however, some shots are just too much to be able to replicate without REALLY, REALLY studying the original...

looooooooooooooooool! U funny :P
then hopper forgot to say he was inspired by you....hmmm...round and round we go :P :P :P

i think he wouldn't dare link anything about himself back to DPC for what he has allegedly done. he's got a reputation to uphold at eyefetch - oh he's the KING!

Yeah, the more I read this thread and the more stuff that keeps cropping up the more I find myself shaking my head. One would think that after his fall Rikki would have learned his lesson. It's really a shame that he didn't. I once thought he had some pretty original ideas but now I just wonder if he "lifted" them from another photographer as well.

DPC is a very inspirational place, especially for new photogs. Inspiration is one thing, as such putting one's own unique twist on the photo is what will set it apart from just a copy. Upset with Rikki that he did not give credit where it was due, he even used the same titles. So perhaps he was not "inspired" but really liked the shot and just plain out took the challenge of mimicing it.

These shots are inspired by shots on DPC perhaps or other places but not as much as copies as the 3 earlier examples. I reckon he misses DPC and wants to create a little DPC world over at Eyefetch.

I remember somebody here doing this same thing in blue:

A couple others I thought were VERY similar to some I've seen on here:

Edit: too slow on some of those...

He gives credit for that one: "Thanks to an old friend (kiwiness) who gave me the inspiration and give it my own twist."

Hi did credit Kiwiness there. Actually it's a fun PAD project where you take your favorite DPC pics and Deja Vu them.

Triple posts! darn I'm slow.

ummm, one is a landscape taken by a user called indigo and yours is a strawberry in a girls mouth....

Also dp's image is and the the first couple examples seem to be knock off absolutely, but these last ones seem like a stretch, putting a goldfish in a wine glass was not invented at DPC, nor was shooting bubbles, and I am sure DrAchoo wasn't the first one to try and imitate a photo from the Matrix. I think it is not that cool that he didn't change the title or tone of iluminate but these are starting to become a stretch, IMO.

Why not, if credit is due. I could see it to be fun thing to try, not that I'd go and do it myself. It would be a neat learning experience. We had Deja Vu challenges, twice.

what I mean, is that it's really a DPC-deja-vu-thing?
Or just "pick your favorite pic from somewhere and make a deja-vu"?

I wasn't accusing Rikki on those shots. I started my post with a note about Inspiriation. Just examples of inspiriation and not clear copies like the other shots may seem to be.

ok, I see that now :).

Rather than having a feeding frenzy here, Rikki is basically only guilty of representing (by omission to the original author/shot) that it was a unique work of his, or making it sound like it, especially with the exact title and tones used.

To replicate a shot can be a technical exercise to see if one could recreate something that inspired that person, and it happens all the time. In this case, because the issues here on DPC that involved Rikki, his doing so has become a sensitive issue, and in my opinion, was quite tacky.

He didn't steal anyone's images and call them his own, and this really shouldn't become a witch hunt with a mob mentality behind it. I'm certainly not defending Rikki, just see no reason to call out a lynch mob, though a village burning may be in order...

Originality?

Did I do the same? I vaguely remember seeing a cartoon somewhere, but never a photograph.

I guess it could be both, but had DPC in mind. Of course credit must be given and to be totally proper (and respectful), PMing or Emailing and asking permission to do so first.

So... where's the hopper bashing thread? Has anybody at least sent him some nasty PMs? Surely this thread is about an important issue and not just a "lets find something new to bash Rikki thread"? The guy was suspended. He's gone. Leave the man alone already.

Btw, this isn't directed at you but to the group here.

Gosh darnit, he copied me too! And here I thought I had the copyright on squirrels!

How dare anybody take a photo that mimics one of mine! This is exactly the reason I carry a torch while I'm out with my camera, so I can burn the village of anybody who takes the same shot I do. Well, of course unless they ask me first so they can give me the credit I'm due. It IS all about me afterall.
