This is a retake of the my still life entry:

Almost everytime I'm back out at this barn doing stables I set this up and redo it. This time I used a pitchfork instead of the shovel, took some extra time to set up the scene and used a bucket to steady the camera.

Comments, better, worse, the same?

I think it looks much better -- cleaner and more sophisticated.

Nice work Deannda! It's cool to be able to see you re-working the shot and the improvements that you are going through. Dedication like this will only make you better! Keep it up. :-)

I left some comments on the shot for you.

Yours,
TC

Definitely better. I do like the angle from the first shot, but the tones, the focus, the production are all much better in the new one. Great work.

Thinking about it some more: the first one doesnt have an angle other than shooting further away, and down, and that's not what I meant. I think it might be interesting to shoot this at a slight angle, maybe this time from the viewer's right, and get just a bit more of the trunk in.

I think you will find that working out a shot like this is good practice overall. Your retake is much more interesting to me than he original. If you settle for your first attempt all the time, you will likely miss out on other opportunities.

I like it a lot better. Much more dynamic! Well done.

I agree
much better for the retake
They convey the same feeling (probably even more strongly for your retake) I think, but the second one is much more visually appealing to me =)

i don't remember seeing the first one, but i like the second one.. and then i looked at the camera you used, and was surprised.. not often you see nice pictures coming out of simple cameras (although they've always said, it's the person behind the camera that counts).. good work.
