Great sky pictures are the hardest to get a photo of. Anyone interested in a challenge where your subject is sky's (it can be sunsets, or clouds or anything that has to do with the sky)? I was thinking either basic editing or minimal editing. Any thoughts?

I am up for it - but not if it is minimal :P

I am all for it with any of the others (basic, advanced, or expert) though.

Then Basic we can do. Im not into editing photos unless absolutley necessary. But Basic is fine, and for those who don't want Basic can do Minimal (to find out what their real skills are).

Instead of one person winning the challenge, everyone should take one photo a day for 5 days of the sky and on the 6th day after the challenge is over, post all 5 photos and everyone leave comments and chooses their favorite from the 5 photos for each person who participates.

How does this sound to everyone?

I think she is talking about a side challenge like a 30-day challenge, at least according to the folder this is in.

It would be more of a challenge to do this under the Minimal rules -- it's too easy to hype or dramatize a sky even under the Basic rules.

I agree, I think it should be minimal but others want atleast basic, so I said that you can do upto basic, but for those who really want to get a feel for their skills, to do minimal editing. Which is what I am going to do.

Side Challenge Skys Rules

Challenge will start on March 12 (Next Monday)

1. Must be photos of skys taken over 5 days
2. You must take one photo of the sky per day (or more if you don't have time on antoher day of the challenge.)
3. You may use the basic editing rules, however you must let everyone konw that you used that editing preference when you post your photos. I am using the minimal rules to really get a feel for my skills.
4. After the period of 5 days, everyone will choose their own 5 favorite photos that they took (one for each day) and post them.
5. Everyone will comment and pick one out of five as their favorite for each person who participated. This means that there is not a winner, but one of your photos will be a winner out of the others.

Please let me know if anyone has any questions regarding these rules, or if something needs to be addedd/removed.

Thanks

This is the example I was looking to post before:

Actually, I believe it was just me that wanted the basic (at least) over the minimal - cos I am a big fat woosy :) Please don't hesitate to go another route. GeneralE has a good point. My point of view was that I would want to add noteworthy photos to my portfolio - and my attempts at minimal editing were, well ... not so good.

I am up for the challenge though, and if this little side challenge is geared more toward learning and discussing the minimal editing rules, I know I could benefit along with everyone else.

If it's a side challenge anyway ... maybe people can post both Minimal and Basic versions, and we can evaluate the comparison. I play around with a lot of radical color adjustments, but it's sometimes well-received and sometimes not -- this would be a good opportunity to evaluate the effectiveness of the most "basic" post-processing.

Also, the reason why I thought it would be better to use the minimal editing rules is because a lot of us are not used to using it, and we need practice.

Please let me know if anyone has any questions regarding these rules, or if something needs to be addedd/removed.

Thanks
