I plan on buying my first DSLR new. However, I've been offered some used goods as well. I was offered a perfect condition Nikon D1 with lenses and other 'stuff' for about 600USD. I don't know that it's a good deal or not because I don't know much about used camera parts. Put me in the same positon with PC parts and I'm golden, but being a beginner at this, I'm wondering how most figure out what is a good deal and what isn't when it comes to used stuff. Also, when selling, how do you decide what price to list your stuff at?

I tried looking at ebay, and it seems people either OVER price their used goods making it better to just buy new, or the price is so low that you have to think that something is wrong with it. I saw the D1 for as low as 150USD and as high as 700USD...

Seems quite high for a camera that is less than 3mp. JMHO. I know nothing else about that camera.

i would pay a fair price for an item that is in good condition. you're asking a pretty specific question while at the same time somewhat obtuse.

you have a perfect condition D1 - ok - with some 'stuffs' and lenses. with out knowing what the stuffs and lenses are how could anyone guess what would be a fair price?

to put it in perspective - if i offered you a p4 CPU and main board what you pay for it? dunno do ya... what speed is it, what main board is it...

Nikon D1 is a very old digital camera. Was a good one, but had it´s own time. Megapixel is nothisg about image quality, but all about sizes. This camera had amazing image quality, but is not comparable with actual technology. Now if you present yourself with this gear to a pro job, they will laught of you.

But... if you tend to the Nikon line of DSLRs then the other gears may had some value to you. Specially if the "lens" included in the pacage is usable and in perfect state.

In the DSLRs world the things are diferent from digicans. You made a mariage to a brand cause one only good lenses can surpasses many times the value of the camera body.

I don't know. Filters, 1 lens (Not sure which one) and all I got was 'other stuff'. The reason I would consider it is because, from what I've read so far, is that the body itself is very strong. Might be good for those days I don't want to worry about dropping it, or banging it.

Anyways, I just thought I would ask. So, if it were JUST the body, how would you decide how much it's worth? Forget that other stuff is being offered along with it for now.

I don't know, it seems like the way camera equipment has progressed recently even the lower end consumer DSLRs are incredible. My E-500 is fantastic (and underrated) and for almost the same price ($600-$700) you can get it with 2 lenses. Same goes for the Canon Rebels...amazing deal for what you get and they're 8+ MP.

i think it might be better to ask yourself what features/camera do you want and then try and find it in you price range.
i.e. pixels, brand....
