I can't seem to figure out why my HDR-generated images uploaded to the web seem flat.

They look perfectly fine on my screen even after saving for web in PS (CS3 beta). But when I upload them, the colors turn dull.

Here's my workflow (for a single exposure HDR):

- Make three TIFF files with Photoshop using three different exposure values inside of Camera Raw.
- Generate an HDR using Photomatix, set on 8-bit.
- Open that image, make adjustments in Photoshop.
- Once I'm finished, I resize and convert the color space from AdobeRGB to sRGB ... this flattens the image.
- Then open the save for web command, and keep ICC profile turned on. I've tried off, but it turns dull immediately after.
- File is saved as a JPG.
- I check the new file in Photoshop and Preview and it looks fine.
- I upload to web.

This is when the image looks flat. What's happening during the uploading process? I've tried on two different web sites, and I'm getting the same result. I don't recall this happening on a non-HDR image. Is Photomatix doing someting? Maybe it's the new Camera Raw 4?

Anyone with similar troubles?
Thanks for any help!

try this thread
Sounds to me like maybe you need to check your color space and see if it is set for web output. sRGB1966.something I think. I am not an expert but if you look in this thread it has an example to of someone else who had a similar problem. You can also do a forum search for color space and it might help out also.

Thanks, I'll check out that thread. But I'm converting the color space to sRGB, and everything is looking great ... until I upload. I suspect it's during the save for web process.

Perhaps you could post an image that look washed out on your screen. If it does look washed out to everyone here on DPC the problem is in the image or your workflow. If not maybe the problem is somewhere in you color management I.E. the color profile that you use in your video card settings.

I posted the same thing in the tips forum:

OK ... think I finally figured it out. It seems that the traditional sRGB IEC61966-2.1 cannot be used on CS3 beta for Mac, at least not for me. I got RGB - Color LCD to reproduce the colors the most accurate. Every other color space gave me washed out results. I'm working on a MacBook by the way.

Thanks for putting up with this :)
