Jeez, ya can't even take pictures of the local Target anymore.

Snicker. Gotta watch what you target at the Target!

edited to remove the comment. I was just trying to take it lightly.

Ummm...did you read this part of the article (underline added for emphasis)?

"Officers asked to see the photos of the camera's memory card and saw that they were all photographs of women's rear ends..."

Women's rear ends... that is an unusual name for a bird. I would like to review the pictures.

It takes all of what, two seconds, to erase the card... what a marooon.

While I would never in my wildest dreams do anything like that ... I have to wonder, what's the big deal? It's not like he was hiding, taking pictures on the sly, it's not like there was any expectation of privacy (they were out in public), it's not like any of the so called "up skirt" or "down blouse" types of shots. Would it be different if he had focused his camera elsewhere on their bodies? What if he was on assignment for a news story about obesity in America? Has he really done anything any more wrong than the DPC'ers that are out shooting images for the Street challenge?

Serves him right, that's what camera phones are for! :-)

I think it is too funny that the "righteous media" would even carry this story. If he had been taking pictures and invading the privacy of a celebrity and political figure, nothing would have been said. Even if he had been shooting only their behinds. Too funny.

I understand your point David, it may all be legal and such, but you have to admit (well, you don't have to) it's a bit creepy.

As for hiding and being on the sly - he wasn't exactly out in the open saying "excuse me maam, do you mind if I take a photo of your backside?".

Excerpt from the article...

"in his car in the store parking lot of Target ... with a camera that had a large telephoto lens."

edit - dang, missed a typo. :-)

Wait a minute. How'd you know he was taking pics
of plump chicks? Hmmmmmmmmm.

yes, the guy's a creep, but does anyone else feel weird about a cop asking to see what he photographed? isn't that wrong?
02/13/2007 10:24:16 PM · #16
The photographer's name, according to the story, is Paul W. Tibbetts.

Someone of the same name piloted the Enola Gay and bombed Hiroshima.

If your last name happens to be Tibbetts, you may want to think twice of calling your son Paul W.

I guess not if they had reasonable cause to believe a crime was committed. I'm sure the story doesn't carry all the details, but it does sound to me like the was obvious the guy was up to no good.

I have no idea if they were plump or not. But I've seen many a news story on TV about obesity and that's the body part they often focus on. If it's okay for the news media to do it ... is it okay for the lone guy with a camera to do it? (plump or not, on assignment or not?)

Has he really broken any laws that he should be fined for?

What if you (not you personally, but DPC'ers in general) were out taking pictures of people for the street challenge and got cited for your photographic activity? Should the cops have a right to ask to see what you were taking pictures of? What if you said no, how far should the cops be able to go?

No kidding, I was out shooting for Street today and I DID photograph a woman's bum! :P

Wow... That's just on the other side of the river from where I live. I was there earlier today (not target but the town). How funny! It'll all come out at court where he'll probably just receive a warning not to be so weird in the future.

Sorry. I don't see what the big deal is. Probably will get thrown out of court. If you're in public place, you can be photographed.

Ya he's kinda creapy, but it's not against the law to be creapy.

I think they know that and why they booked him on disorderly conduct charges ... I doubt those will stick either.

FWIW booty shots are much better with shorter focal lengths :-)
