Greetings,

I am interesting in taking some courses (preferbly credit based courses) on photography. At present I have an A.S. and would love to complete a degree in photography but that is not an absolute requirement. I'd consider a certificate program, if not too costly. I am much more inclined to invest in credits or a degree program.

The local college near me offers photography classes but is mainly focused on film. The largest component of the coursework focusing on development. This is not something I am interested in professionally. I do not believe I will ever work in a dark room. I might build one as a hobby but nothing on a professional level. The college does offer a single "digital photography" course. However, this course is really no more than a scan your photo and digitally enhance it. The curriculum seems little changed from the 1990's photography curriculum.

I am trying to find a curriculum that is current and aware of the whole digital photography revolution. I want to learn about the fundamentals of photography, composition, etc. and digital post-processing. In otherwords, I want the photography without 70% of it spent developing film photos in chemicals.

Does anyone know of any such programs either online or even more preferable, within the SE Pennsylvania/N. Maryland area?

Is this a residence school or do they have an online program.

Apparently, Hallmark is a residency only. Looks like a nice program. Just not in the position to be able to pick up my family and move and live for a year without income.

It's only 10 months. You can get through that in a lot less time than just about any other program.

I don't think there are too many (if any) degree programs in photography that you can do over the internet. If it's something you really want to do, re-locating temporarily may be your only option.

edit: I just Googled "online photography degree" and got several hits. I've never heard of any of the schools, but, I suppose they are worth checking out.

Have you inquired if the programs near you are switching to digital anytime soon? They may have plans to do so. They might be unannounced too, so try contacting instructors directly.

The community college near me rather abruptly decided to go all digital in the coming year, after being firmly film entrenched. The economics and problems of students acquiring film have just become too problematic I think.

And I believe it was one of the larger public school photography programs in the US.

Art Institute of Pittsburgh has degrees in photography. Not sure where you are located though. They have online courses as well but they dont offer the photography degree online. I'm currently getting my degree in graphic design, it's a good school, but very expensive!
