Psshh! You can't watch an epic movie like that anywhere but in the theater! Come on now!

that movie looks like a smack in the face to all beatles songs.
they shouldn't be used to promote that crap, what a disgrace.

Knowledge is power:
At once gritty, whimsical and highly theatrical, Revolution Studios' Across the Universe is an original movie musical springing from the imagination of renowned director Julie Taymor (Frida, Titus, and the Broadway smash hit musical "The Lion King") and writers Dick Clement & Ian La Frenais (The Commitments).

A love story set against the backdrop of the 1960s amid the turbulent years of anti-war protest, mind exploration and rock 'n roll, the film moves from the dockyards of Liverpool to the creative psychedelia of Greenwich Village, from the riot-torn streets of Detroit to the killing fields of Vietnam. The star-crossed lovers, Jude (Jim Sturgess) and Lucy (Evan Rachel Wood), along with a small group of friends and musicians, are swept up into the emerging anti-war and counterculture movements, with "Dr. Robert" (Bono) and "Mr. Kite" (Eddie Izzard) as their guides. Tumultuous forces outside their control ultimately tear the young lovers apart, forcing Jude and Lucy – against all odds – to find their own way back to each other.

All you need is love.

The movie looks interesting, the snatches of Beatles' covers sounded pretty good to me. I'll go see it!

There was one major problem I had with the trailer:

It showed WAY WAY too much. The story looks "involved" and has "arc", so why not let the viewer discover most of that in theatre? They could have showed 1/5th and still portrayed it as an interesting movie...ah well. Trailers should tease with characters and motion, not story and detailed plot.

Unfortunately they do that more and more. I noticed it years ago with tv shows, they would show all the interesting parts ---including the big surprise blah blah blah whatever--- in the teaser. I think teasers should be just that, teasers.

Of course it could be cultural, and the culture is changing. Paraphrasing a fragment of story I read (I think it was in the kite runner) ... An Afghani went to see John Wayne blockbuster. He was talking about it with an American and said blah blah blah where John Wayne gets shot and dies. The American, having yet to see the movie, was less than happy the ending was ruined. This confused the Afghani since from his view it's the journey that's important; knowing what happens isn't the point, knowing the journey is.

Back to your regularly scheduled thread, full of love ....

Are you kidding me? He's hippe to the max (along with all our friends)! He's real artsy too.

I wouldn't call this a chick flick at all... I'd say more along the alternate/indie lines.

Have you seen any commercials lately? I'd rather see their songs in an awesome hippie revolution movie than a Target add.

Coooome on. That's what their music was FOR!
