this one brought a tear to my eye...so sad!

I'll just have to look on the bright side that luckily we're not able to make photo's like that anymore. (well not here, sadly some other parts of the world do)

sad photo:(

have you been to Sibir? :( Africa is another example. not much has changed since that time in too many places. unfortunately:(

no I haven't. It's just something about his little face. It kinda resembles my youngest son.

I hear you. I live in Phoenix where people don't go on the street if they can help it. You never see anyone on a sidewalk here. I'm wracking my brain...

Try riding on one of the air conditioned buses or going to one of the malls on Saturday afternoon/evening...

Here are some ideas for Phoenix:

1-Photograph people at malls... there are plenty there.

2-Go downtown or along Central Ave. (I realize that might be a LONG drive)
You will find the complete spectrum of humanity there.

3-Parks in the evening... people are always walking dogs, etc.

4-Along the canals... people jog and ride bikes there

5-Master Planned Communities... a primary constituent of urban Phoenix culture

Phoenix even has street people, as evidenced by this image:

Interestingly enough the BBC has In pictures: Cartier-Bresson Scrapbook, not many but interesting none-the-less.

I'm sure there's a transvestite prostitute pining to have his/her photo taken during a snowstorm ...

LOL good memory!! Those are fair weather trannys tho :) they aren't out now!!

Seriously tho...is it too cold to take the camera out?? Not that I will see much out there but I am on my way out anyway ...
Its -18 without the windchill...

I've shot at -20º C and froze up my 1Ds2 within five minutes. Mind you, it was stormy with a wind chill factor likely below that temp. This is the last picture the camera produced (until it thawed out again - a few minutes later):

I've had mine out at -20F, I started out putting it in my jacket to warm up but eventually became comfortable with it being cold. And my batteries held up much longer than I thought they would.

YMMV, I would recommend what the specs are on the camera - I think I was pushing a limit.

Also, I'd recommend that if you do go out, when you come back in allow the camera ample time to warm up letting any condensation evaporate *before* turning the camera on ... just to be safe.

(Whoda thought there were fair-weather trannies?)

ETA - I was in straight-cold, no wind, and sunny. The sun probably helped a lot keeping the black body of the camera temps stablish.

I'll be looking for those Canadian tranny's - ain't been the same without 'em! Grocery store might be worthwhile, too. Get 'em heading back out into the freezing weather, or coming in with red faces and coated in snow. :-)

Shooting Tranny's and Ho's can get you dead. Very risky bidness.

BTW, This is commonly refered to as "The Walk Of Shame". It means you left the Bar or the Nightclub well after sunrise.

I suppose, what would make The Walk Of Shame" sting just a little more, would to be doing it in a Purple or Blue Sparkle Chiffon Dress and high heels...especially if you're a dude.

I dunno...I'll check with Pedro about that. ;P

I shot in -40F(-40C) in Banff a few years ago. My Canon G2 survived just fine. Though it was a sunny, windless -40F day ;) The batteries didn't last too long though, but keeping them warm helped. Just make sure you stick the camera inside a sealed, airtight bag before you bring it back indoors, or the condensation will mess up your camera.

I've been shooting in -10 C with my K10D all winter up at whistler. I'm not shooting all day long, but the camera stays in my backpack, so it never warms up. No problems with anything so far, aside from my fingers!

I live in the second largest Gay community, in the most multi cultural city in North America..I dont go looking for the ho's and the tranny's its all just part of the hood.
You just gotta remember the junkies are slooow, no ones gonna drop their kit to chase you... the crackies they are a whole nuther case..

All kidding aside, I appreciate your concern and since my tranny attack last year I am careful

Zip-Locks.

It's the weather-sealed 1Ds which froze up. The 30D held out ok. My old 10D never gave up its ghost either in local winter temps...

Although, in the last few years I've only had the exact opposite problem. Going outside, my camera would be so cold from the air conditioning and it would be so humid outside, that I'd have to let the gear acclimatise to the outdoor temp before using. I've had lenses fog up from going outside too quickly here.

Who had this great idea of street photography IN THE MIDDLE OF WINTER! There are people from Canada on this site... White pictures are not all that cool.

If you are a dang Canadian, you shouldn't be bitching about the cold but out celebrating winter! ;-)

Get out and take some photographs. Winter is the best time of year!

I'm thinking that the people/person who decided to do this in the winter must live in a warmer environment
