I am making my first post a real winner because I am a little irritated there is nothing to do using a free account. I think you guys are being taken by paying for full membership. I pay a nameless host less than a hundred per year, it includes 200gb of storage, and 2tb of monthly transfer, I bet the stats here are not more than twice that. I wonder how much the owner makes off this site? This place should be community run, and should live off of donations. There is a serious market to create a site with similar structure, but operated by enthusiasts, allowing the legitimate use of the word "community".

This isn't some photo hosting site. This is a photography challenge. The demands on this site match the expense. 2 dollars a month is well worth it even though pictures i take kind of suck. I have a Flickr account i use for 25 a year also that i can upload mad photos to. If thats all your looking for go there.

This site is run by a council of its own members that are widely supported by its own members. That doesnt mean we all agree with them but we live among them just like any other community.

Not fair - here we are, trying to worship him, and he goes offline and doesn't even see his new fan club's admiration!

Alright guys, have your laugh, but I feel my rant is valid. Instead of spouting off random insults, why not address the issue? You've taken the time to reply, now say something worthwhile.

Congratulations to Mr. Rainmotorsports for having the only good reply.

Yeah, I heard you the first time. Thanks for the input.

The answer you got from rainmotorsports is pretty much it. We like it here and I really don't see what your issue is. Either stick around and see if you like it, or don't. Up to you.

I'm sorry if I seemed flippant; that was just my gut reaction, and as it develops it was a valid enough one :-)

I am a veteran of community-driven sites online, and this is one of the best ones I have ever been a part of. The price is extremely fair for the value returned. The owners don't sit on their butts and rake in the money, they listen to the members and constantly make site improvements that benefit us all. The administration is very level-headed and easy to get along with. The structure (the competition structure, I mean) is very intricate and well set up. I've never seen the equal of this site, for what it does. I am well-satisfied. I have dabbled in other photography sites but remain rooted here, where I feel a real sense of purpose and community.

You haven't actually expressed an issue to address. You claimed that there's nothing to do with a free account, which is patently false. You can enter Open challenges and learn from the community in the forums. That is the point and the value of this site.

Fair enough. I'll echo rainman: Go Flickr yourself.

I am picturing you walking into a neigborhood bar for the first time with lots of regulars and yelling out "Hey! Who runs this place?? This bar should be run by all these regular customers. How much is the owner making off this place anyway?? I can get a case of beer at Costco for twenty bucks!"

I am not picturing you walking out of the bar though.

Great job guys(and girls). So the general consensus is that you don't mind that you have to pay because you've found a place you like.

My rebuttal is that you shouldn't have to pay in order to have a place like this. Perhaps it's human nature to dislike change, and you overlook this seemingly small detail. While I see someone making a lot of money off of hardworking enthusiasts, and then being praised for it. Take a moment to quit being offended by someone challenging the place you love, and think about whether or not you want to pay someone else's next Mbz payment.

Dude you join and spend a few hours here and decide that $.06 a day is a waste cuz there is nothing of value here? How very sad. I would spend $25.00 a day some days to have access the knowledge of some of the users here not to mention the fantastic idea of this site. You join and the first post is to rant? Man its really sad you might have learned a thing or two but I can tell that's not your bag. I won’t hate on you but I do feel sorry for you. Take care and I hope you find a place on the net that suits you.

Later.

Besides, I think the money-grubbing admins will want to sell tickets to this thread.
