My 19 year old son fetor (A United States Marine) is in Iraq. He was able to get online briefly to say he made it there safely. Just wanted to say how fragile I feel about it all, but how proud I am at what he is doing over there. He has a 14 month long tour in the Sand Pit.



Anyhoo. Send me some love people!

Anybody else have kids or a spouse over there?

God Bless him and his sacrifice and service to our country. God Bless you for being such a brave mom. Will say a prayer for you both. I hope he's home sooner then later. {{hugs}}

I don't have any loved ones over there, but I'm sending him wishes for a safe and successful deployment Kelly. :) *hugs*

Mine got back just last year. I am glad to see someone who doesn't curse the war and say how proud they are of their soldier.

Yes, I was sad too when my husband left but at the same time, I had a greater pride in what he does :)

Sendin you some love (cause I know how bad you need it)

My best friend taterbug and my brother were both in the navy during the first Iraq war. My brother went back (National Guard) for this one for a year and a half. He may go back for another shift. I know what you are going through. Please, the next time you talk to your son, give him my most humble thanks for serving.

May God Bless and watch over your son during his deployment and bring him home safe and sound. I send my prayers out to both you and your son along with my utmost respect for what he is doing for our Great Country.

I read threads like this and see people say how proud they are and thank you for the service and I think that is fantastic. However, I am still serving in the military for a little while longer and have had my 6 turns in the "sandbox" and I want to say Thank You! to all who have shown support for me and my brothers in arms. No matter how we feel about politics, leaders, and current situations you have stood your ground and shown us your love. I remember getting the care packages from school kids with the cute little drawings and letters and it made me remember why I have put the uniform on everyday for the last 21 years. GOD BLESS YOU, THE SUPPORTERS. Stand strong until they all come home.

And they legacy continues....my daughter leaves for basic training April 3rd.

Thanks to all those who posted. Sure means alot at a time like this, and it's so encouraging to have support for our Military without the political comments! My son enlisted to make a difference, to have a purpose greater than just earning a paycheck every week. He sought brotherhood, travel, challenge and structure. The Marine corps is a great choice for a young man his age. They discovered some hidden talents of his, and have challenged him in many areas. He was able to obtain level 3 security clearance (due to good civilian behavior) and has taken up learning a second language. He is thriving and doing great. Oh, and he was recently promoted to Lance Corporal!!

Kelley, I didn't know he had been sent to Iraq. I am so blown away with admiration and honor for the troops who are over there -- and even the troops here in America for their service to our country.

Remembering how sad I was when my son just went away to college, I can only imagine how intense the ambivalent feelings of pride and grief over him being so far away must feel for you!

You will so be in my prayers!!! And Corey will especially be!

You should be very proud of him. In any war, good or bad, it takes heros to go and wave the flag for their country. My nephew has been to Afganistan twice in the last four years (over 2 years total). Your son is serving his country well as are others who have left family and friends throughout the world. We will all pray for him and others serving in places like Korea, Iraq, Turkey, and other places that no-one knows about.

My husband is in the military and has already gone & come home !!! I know 14 months seems like 50 years, just know that every day he's gone, is one day closer to him being back. I will think of him every night as I lay my own son to sleep, & will include him in our nightly prayers.

Having served in the UK armed forces for 10 years (1969-1979) I know how your son will be feeling going on active service. Firstly this is his job and one he will have trained for and you can be assured that the training he has will have been 1st class. I can honestly say that those 10 years were an amazing experience and one I very much enjoyed even though there were times when things got a little 'hairy'.
He and his collegues will form a friendship that is impossible to explain to people who are outside of the military, its something I still miss today - that friendship -
