Pretty boring though, and not sharp enough.

And eyewave, you made a good choice in going with the one you did... obviously! :)

I was so close! I was really hoping for 3rd, but I'll take the star.

Here are some others I considered. I guess I made the wrong decision since my entry didn't do as well as I had hoped. Or maybe they all suck. :)

Why don't bugs just go where we want them? Honestly.. I'm sure you asked nicely.

I didn't enter this challenge. I had this in mind but wasn't sure. Any input would be appreciated.

scarlet, I think it meets the challenge well but the sky quality is poor. Perhaps the resize...or my monitor.

Outake

I ultimately did not use this shell because I did not like the gleam that washed out a few details on the spiral and that it was not focus was not as sharp as my Entry. The other thing that was an extreme pain was I would have to stop shooting every few seconds because of specks of dust/dirt or one of my hairs would fall on the cracked glaze tea plate. Here on the resized version it is not so bad but one can still see some dirt specks and such.

Still I was not quite satisfied - I wanted to find something better for the challenge so I went out to the park. I found this white stork poking out of the tall reeds but everytime I tried to get close enough so that it was just the stork & the reeds that filled the camera frame the DARN bird would fly off to the other side of the pond!! This little dance went on for 20 minutes before I gave up.

While skirting the edge of the lake pond I found this GORGEOUS colored CATERPILLAR - black body with bright orange and yellow coloration. It was resting on a low lying stick. Wonderful let me just break it off at the base so that I could hold it up with the backdrop being the blue sky.

DOHHHHH! You guessed it. While breaking off the stick carefully the caterpillar feel somewhere in the thick bushes. @#@%#$@^#$#$!

Among the many attempts, here are my noteable outtakes.

I was fully prepared to compete with this shot, even had it submitted for a few days before withdrawing in lieu of the final entry (shot on the last day of the challenge period). Seen here with slight post processing that wouldn't have been allowed (smart sharpen, selective color and dust cloning).

I love this one, but it required some additional post processing outside the challenge rules to get it to look like this (mainly slight crop and distortion correction with PTLens).

And finally, a more dynamic minimalistic shot. I also quite like this one, and it worked really well as a "straight-from-the-camera" shot (even hiding sensor dust), but I thought I'd get nailed for it being to "busy" for a minimalism shot ... even thought it technically qualifies. ;-)
