Just a heads up I will be going to Sedona, AZ for a long weekend with one of my best childhood girlfriends. I intend to take lots of photos, but won't be around to vote or submit for a few days. I may jump on the computer on Sunday if possible to see what the new challenge(s) are.

Team Novice - you'll have to strive for that elusive Iambic Pentameter without me ;-)

Why do we all come up for different names for the same places in our own languages? If Italy calls it's city Venezia, why don't we all call it Venezia? What possessed us (English speaking folks) to call it Venice? Roma is perfectly good as is - no need to call it Rome. And it's not just the English speakers - the Germans have a different word for Venezia, too. Weird. Discuss. (And yes, I'll go to the other clubhouse - gotta link it and save it as a fav on this computer.)

I think it just has to do with comprehension. Italians say "Stati Uni" for the United States. It Italian it means verbatim, "United States". However, that would be a weird word for Italians to say. Likewise, Venezia would be strange to most Americans, because there are few words that end in "ia" in the English language. It is too bad we do this... I probably should have taken more linguistics during college, maybe I would know the answer.

I'd bring that bolded ' in ' for questionin'.
I rarely ever hear the word as stressed.
A pyrrhic plus a trochee ain't no sin.
As poets go, our Raish can top the best.

How about, "I ate a gin-soaked olive insalata" haha ok, will stop talking to myself now...

I've got 2 of 3 kids down with stomach virus' here - no shots in this week (Good, Bad), and not sure if I'll have the chance to get anything done in time for Fruit/Veg, Bio or Music.

*sigh*

Sorry about your household :( Ours had it last week. The only good thing about it is it comes fast and goes fast. If that helps to know

Good luck with that, being sick is no fun. Having 2 kids sick sounds even worse.

Rehearsal? More info is required, please. And thank you kindly for your comment on my Free Study - much appreciated.

I will try to comment on all the Team Suck free study entries when I get home. I regret that I didn't get a chance to view or vote in that challenge. :(

Boy, I just can't keep up. And Jeb suggested I was already spending too much time on DPC in the OOBIE/YAPPIE award thread. :)

But I need to thank all of you for my YAPPIE. It's now proudly posted in my profile. I do take commenting seriously, and I've been feeling like I've been lapsing because my comments given to comments received ratio has dropped below 2. So I'm delighted to learn folks appreciate my efforts, even when I'm critical. :)

Edited: WHOAH. HOW did I miss winning it on 12/26? May I suggest that someone PM winners so they know?

Could someone please tell me what I did wrong. All of the comments were good.

It would help to have the original photo side-by-side with the entered photo. The background is odd in that there is no detail but this may be a post-processing effect.

This is my FS that I pulled. In under 24 hours I had 9 comments telling me it was OOF and a score of 3.3.

I put this in my portfolio today too. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of noise without losing the fur? I only have the free version of neatimage and PS CS (not CS2). Both of these were taken through dirty glass and it's a common problem for me.

02/08/2007 09:48:24 AM · #269
I don't see an obvious problem with the second one in the resolution that it is in here. The first one might have had its autofocus pulled out a bit by the "dirty glass"? Why are you taking shots through "dirty glass"?

ROFLMAO! Not my camera "glass". The enclosures they are in at the zoo! I can't really get in there and clean them. Besides, if I showed up with some windex, I don't think they would let me in.

Me too!

BTW, I am sucking soooo bad it isn't even funny...Personification is taking a beating at 3.59, and Good dropped!!! from 4.0 !!!! to 3.9 range. Technically I think both are good pix, but I know that in Good, I did choose to shoot objects that may not really be considered good. Think I'll go vote now and see what others did for Good/Bad.

Then I'll go home, make a pan of brownies, curl up in a fetal position in the corner, and wolf em all down...;-)

Hmm...

Just been voting on Good and I guess I'm not alone in my concept of Good. I see pics depicting things more like cute or happy, which are fine, but necessarily good? Fergus, my Entrancing pony, is cute as a drawerful of buttons - but he's a sneaky little devil, so although he's very intelligent (as most ponies are) I wouldn't call him good.

Personally I really think that the SC made a bit of a bad call by omitting food from this challenge.

We'd have 200 entries of good or bad food. Think how much harder you had to work to come up with something. Stretching those brain cells is part of what challenges are all about. :)
