but I don't understand, didn't we vote on that thread? we gave some votes to oobie and yappie and didn't we just have to choose the ones with the most votes?

This is not how the process works. The thread is a nomination thread only.

A ballot was PM'd to all butterflies with instructions to PM votes back by midnight last night.

The process was discussed in this thread.

Svetlana, as I understand it, I don't understand it.

Team Suck has taught me a whole new level of acceptance......I just accept it as it comes along because I haven't a clue as to how it works.

I have no idea how any of what is is arrived at, how the process goes, and who's involved.

I just know if someone says,"Okay everybody, do this.", I do that!

And somehow it all seems to work out.

Remember you blew out on your suckage and got a ridiculouly high score and someone said, "Okay, Svetlana, you make all the comments."?

If you did that, you did good!

Do not worry, if you're supposed to do something, someone will let you know.....I do know one thing, it most likely won't be me 'cause I don't know, ya know?.......8>)

melethia, I can see a problem here. You're starting to get a bunch of 6+ scores. I was calling noraneko "Miss 6" because she was getting so many of them but it looks like you're trying to move in on her territory.

nikonjeb, don't let the bad guys get you down. Your shots are always very interesting and thought provoking. I know it's hard to not get bummed out some time. I'm disappointed in my scores all the time. Keep up the good work.

Since no one made it to the pool party last weekend at my place, lets try again for this weekend. We can sit on the patio and suck down (no pun intended) some COLD ones and when it gets too warm, we can take a dip in the pool and cool off. All of team suck is invited.

Thank you Jeb, for "just doing it" (making comments on all team suck photographs when asked). I suspect, even though this may have been difficult to do, that you learned a little bit more about each of your suck league teammates.

I'm pretty sure Deb is way above my territory. We may have to re-name her Miss 6.5 or something soon :-)

Looking forward to that pool party, Bob. We can change our name to the Team Suck Polar Bear Club!

Hi guys,
Just a quick note to say i am still here and will be in the Fruit & Veg challenge. keeping a low profile as i am rebuilding a fresh website for myself.

Nearly there but a little bit of work on the slide show.

Also purchased a rake of studio gear as i have been asked to do some product photography for a website designer in Ireland.

Busy all the time but all good.

Ok now...

So my Personification score is now at 3.5, and my Good shot is 4.000. Guess people aren't 'getting' them. Feh.

The trolls have obviously come out to play!

Oh btw, first batch of pics rejected from LuckyOliver, but at least they said why! Basically I have to watch that my highlights aren't too sharp. Any hints/tips on avoiding that? The pics submitted this time 'round were Neon, Entrance and Table Shot.

At least Table Shot made it onto my homepage.

Bye for now all

Nay, nay. My 6's are usually accidental and rarely occur in rapid sequence. I have three 5's showing on the home page at present, so I can assure you it's not a trend. :-)

Made the drive up from Livorno to Aviano today, and didn't run out of gas! Woo hoo! (There's a gas strike in Italy at the moment.) It was a rainy kinda day with lots of mist and clouds in the mountains but still a beautiful drive. No pics, though. With luck, the clouds won't be completely hiding the mountains here in the morning as they tell me it snowed yesterday and they're quite beautiful when you can see 'em. Keep fingers crossed!

Hey Melethia, My ancestors are from a town name Laurenzana, are you anywhere near there?
02/07/2007 12:04:41 PM · #240
To tell you the truth, I'm not sure what I'm near! I think Venice isn't too terribly far from here if that helps. One of the things I need to do is get a nice wall sized map of Europe so I can keep track of where I am and where I want to go.

And here's a Team Suck question to ponder:

Why do we all come up for different names for the same places in our own languages? If Italy calls it's city Venezia, why don't we all call it Venezia? What possessed us (English speaking folks) to call it Venice? Roma is perfectly good as is - no need to call it Rome. And it's not just the English speakers - the Germans have a different word for Venezia, too. Weird. Discuss. (And yes, I'll go to the other clubhouse - gotta link it and save it as a fav on this computer.)

I really like keeping my scores turned off. I think this will be a permanent measure. I hate watching my scores when I'm doing poorly. This way, I don't suck until it's over. Then I suck.

Well.....if I didn't say something at the time, I know I meant to if I didn't, but I actually enjoyed it 'cause it gave me a chance to look at all of the entries closely and really appreciate what you all were telling me with each shot. I actually hope I screw up and get high score periodically as that was most definitely a worthwhile and exciting task.

As a lover of languages, I have pondered that question on several occasions. The obvious answer, of course, is that the name has been bastardized to fit more easily into another language - but I don't think that's always the case. A great example is the city Göteborg in Sweden. It is often called Gothenburg in English, but Gothenburg is nothing like the Swedish pronunciation. (/jœte'boro/) It would make a lot more sense if we had bastardized it as Jiataburgh or similar, based solely on pronunciation.

"Cool. Just like me."

don't want to discuss:) I always call it as it is on a native language.
I love the way paris sounds in french, I love they way Firenze and Venezia sound in italian, well I love how everything sound in italian:)

(hmm, I'm discussing a lot now - following Jeb's advice ;)

hehe, what about those cool little sounds ø, æ, å in norwegian ? ;)
they have something similar in both dansk and svenska. I'm not quite sure it's easy to pronounce it if you only have seen those letters on paper...

Thanks, Bob, and all you guys who are too numerous to list.....you all take the time individually and collectively to support us all, especially when we get hammered in a challenge with a shot that we "knew" was something that would be good.

That certainly goes a long way in not havimng my confidence undermined for having a shot that requires more than the eight second glimpse.

The first vote on my Free Study was a 7 and I thought, Yes! they're gonna get it!, but it turned out to be another shot that the masses just don't like much.

I don't know why, either.....you'll have to tell me tomorrow.

Hi Gang,

Just a heads up I will be going to Sedona, AZ for a long weekend with one of my best childhood girlfriends. I intend to take lots of photos, but won't be around to vote or submit for a few days. I may jump on the computer on Sunday if possible to see what the new challenge(s) are.

Team Novice - you'll have to strive for that elusive Iambic Pentameter without me ;-)

My bikini-wearing spirit will be there, waiting to jump into 20 below water. It hurts just thinking about it. Drink a cold one for me ;-)
