I bought my first digital cam (toshiba PDRM81) June 2002 and returned it back to the store because it had a dead pixel on CCD. I changed it for a Canon S45 which worked well since I found again tonight another dead pixel... (red spot again). Am I too demanding? Do you guys live with dead pixels? Or I'm just bad lucky??? Starting to lose my faith in those CCDs...

I've had a dead pixel for a long time. Possibly since I bought my camera. It's under warranty and I plan on getting it taken care of before it expires. It's not too noticeable but annoying to me.

I've got that too...
I want to take the camera back but,,,, then I wouldn't have any!!! I don't think I can do that. hehehh..
I'm living with it. It's something that if it is in a shot I clone out AFTER the challenge if it shows

Just on dark images though. hmm which are most of mine.

I can only speak for my experience with the Nokon Coolpix cameras. I had several "hot" pixels crop up during the first year with my 995, and finally sent it to Nikon. They "remapped" it, in essence this gives the camera the information it needs to ignore the output from those pixels, and instead interpolate from nearby ones.
I have to believe that other manufacturers have similar procedures. It's too bad that there is no way the user can remap, without having to return the camera for service.

I have a Canon EOS-10D which turned out to have a bad (red) spot near the center. When my Son and I found it after about a month we went back and looked at the first picture I took with the camera, and sure enough, there it was, hiding in the texture of a clock on the wall. We took the camera back to our local store. Canon's response, when the store called for advise was "No dead pixels are acceptable, send it in." So, in it went with a possible wait of 10 to 15 working days. We had the camera back in 9 total days and it works fine now. I'm pleased.

Could I have lived with that bad spot? Yes, but as ButerflySis mentioned, it annoyed me.

Just curious what does a dead pixel look like? Any examples?
