Article Here

"Correct EXIF capture date / time information. Photo Info can optionally update the EXIF date/time information as recorded in the image file by your camera. You can use this feature to correct the file capture date if your camera's clock was set incorrectly (for example, to the wrong time zone). "

So, how long before this program gets banned?

What do you mean? It's already banned by the terms of submission. Many examples of entries being DQ'ed for Date infractions including intentionaly messing with the EXIF date.

There are actually a number of tools out there that can edit EXIF data.

My understanding is that if you alter you EXIF data with any program you will be suspended.

though through testing it does not change EXIF 'really' .. it modifies IPTC info

creation date stays creation date ...

(!) i thought there was a thread on this before ??

Yes, you could find applications to do this before, this is just one from a major software company that will make EXIF editting that much simpler.

I'm not saying it's allowed...

I think that each challenge description should contain a RED notice to remind everyone to check the date and time on their cameras. Date issues seem to be the most common source of disqualifications. A simple and constant reminder would probably solve MOST of those problems.

there was. it was hidden while we did some research.

we can still tell if the date has been modified.

I doubt it. It comes up in the forums about twice a month (or more) and it still happens. :/

Sometimes personal responsibility really is the best course of action.

I dunno how hard it is on other brands of cameras, but setting time on the Rebel and XT are easy. Just hook the camera to the computer and hit set time. Not THAT hard.

I'd say that depends on the app. I'd bet that I could spend less than ten minutes to find something that actually changes the EXIF and leaves no marker.

The tools are out there. We just have to hope that people are honest.

Not everyone visits the forums. I think a reminder on the submission page at least isn't a bad idea.

As karmat posted, this particular tool is useless for those who would try to cheat. It's changes are easily detected. There are tools out there that potentially could be used to cheat, and we have received "proof" files with relatively sophisticated attempts at alteration... and still detected them. Again, that's not to say that it's not possible to slip one on by, however, when we detect a deliberate attempt to falsify EXIF, our usual response is to disqualify the entry and either permanently ban the user, or hand out a very stiff suspension of six months or more.

Most tools that edit the EXIF time, does not edit all 3 EXIF dates... that I know of theres at least 3 Date Markers in the exif file, then you have the META data such as Creation Date, Modified Date, Accessed Date.

People are cheaters. The e-world is full of people that will cheat to win the silliest of prizes. Even a blue gif.

Interesting. Has anyone actually downloaded it? I would like the EXIF viewing/mouse hover features of that program, but after downloading it, it goes 99% of the way through the installation procedure then tells me that something failed and tells me to contact my vendor.

What? This is a MS powertoy. There is no vendor.... no other way of contacting MS for help that I could see....

Oh. PS, I run genuine Windows with Tablet PC version.
