I want to take some great photographs of my really photogenic sister, this week. I'm planning on taking them early in the morning, about the time I usually go running. But there is tons of snow on the ground. What kind of lighting should I use? Do you have any certain tips or cautions when in the snow?

With snow your meter will lie to you. I suggest taking a couple of shots in auto mode, study the histogram, then compensate accordingly.

Good luck - post shots when you're done :)

Backlit with fill flash looks nice on snow... Whatever you choose to do, bracket your exposures; as stated by Alfresco, meters can be easily fooled in the snow. This is especially true if the light is from behind you and the snow is glaring. Also experiment with WB in snow shots, especially at high altitude; there is a tendency for shadows to go very blue, so "cloudy" WB is often the best choice. RAW is the best choice of all.
