Assumptions are a BI***!!! Please read through the thread and point out my apparant apathy and disdain.

The bigger issue here is that I want more control over the post processing, to the point where I am willing to do it myself! It's me and my family that have to look at these pics for the rest of our lives, not him!

We can't exactly see it without seeing anything of yours, now can we? From the apparent apathy and disdain that you treat the subject, I doubt that you put nearly the effort into any one of your pictures that most people on this site do.

Do what you gotta do. See? Prices are inflated because....what? People what control over how their pics look? Without the subject, you have no intellectual or creative property.

No, my main points were around the 15k for only shooting time and files. Please reread the thread.

I did, it's apparent throughout the entire thread, still. The fact that you can't see it only underscores you arrogant assumptions.

Without a photographer that knows what they're doing, who would care to enforce their copyright? You can create crap, but that doesn't mean that anyone will buy it.

Apparant to you because that's how you perceive me. I haven't assumed anything. Please reread the thread, lol! Those of you who are attacking me are making assumptions.

That's with any product or service that's marketed. What's your point?

Prices are inflated because I can ask what I want and some bride will demand to have me.

And that's great! Kudos to you! Really. But if you're pricing everything including the kitchen sink, why pay for that if all I want is a portion of what you're offering me?

I read it the first time. Your posts indicate a fundamental disrespect for wedding photographers.

If you can find someone to shoot your wedding for $50 and all the beer they can drink, good for you. If not, well, too bad.

I percieve you as a ignorant hack because you have shown nothing different throughout the course of this conversation.

You wanted to solicit the opinion of photographers that take their work seriously, and you have their opinion. I think you're the one that should get over it.

Go back to your photog that you like, ask him the same question and if he doesn't laugh you out of the room or outright tell you to get lost, then you'll have your final answer.

As for me, I'm ignoring this thread. (member perk)

If you have that kind of reaction to the thought of paying $15K, don't call Gary Fong.

or Dennis Reggie.

or Bambi Cantrell

or a host of others that easily command $15K and much more to shoot a wedding.

If it's not that serious for you, why not just get some homeless guy off the street and give him a camera? Just set it on "P" (for "P"rofessional) and let him have at it. You could probably get him to do it for $20 and a sandwich. I bet he'd even let you have the RAW files.

Then why are you posting here? Why aren't you out on Skid Row looking for your photographer? You could probably get some artsy looking pics if you slip him a bottle of Thunderbird before the ceremony too.

I'm not saying you aren't good at processing images, but without knowing that you are, I could possibly put my rep on the line by releasing unprocessed images to a client.

In this bus, reputation is EVERYTHING. If you do a bad job on processing the pics and then they are attributed to me.. that could mean bad things for me.

I think the point here is that he is offering xxxxx package for weddings and you only want xx... then he would not be the photographer for you. You can't demand what parts of his services you will or won't pay for. You'll simply need to find a photograher who suits YOUR needs.... but don't knock the the others just because you don't fit their package.

HOLY CRAP!!!!!!! ALL OF YOU ARE ACTING LIKE KIDS IN MY FREAKING HIGH SCHOOL!!!!!!!
seriously, you guys are all my parents age and up and you guys are whining and fighting like a bunch of monkeys!

I'll be that! So this should be the last post from you, I take it. Adios!

I'll stand my ground, I'm not going to punk out or back down from defending myself, regardless. I was really hoping this conversation would've been a positive one, but the buck stops when I'm personally attacked and expected to burst into tears, HA!

This is certainly getting interesting, isn't it.

I think that I can see both sides of the issue.

On one side is the view that a photographer's job is to show up at the wedding, aim the camera at whatever seems photo-worthy, hand off the files and go home. This is something that could be done by anyone who has enough skill/equipment to take acceptable photos. This is the level of photography that one would get from an individual such as myself, an amateur who wouldn't mind doing it and handing over the RAW files for a thousand dollars or so. The results will show you your wedding and remind you of the event.

On the other hand are the established professional photographers who are truly passionate about their art. They are experienced, brilliant, and more often than not hard to come by. They are meticulous, perfectionist, and would fear handing over their RAW files because they wouldn't bear for anything that bears their name to be less than perfect. Their results will help convey the emotions of the wedding and really bring you back to your wedding day every time you look at them.

My advice: hire a good photographer, and let them do the post-processing. They might let you have the hi-res jpegs as part of the contract. That will save you the added expense of the RAW issue, save you the time of going through and process your own wedding photos (I'm sure after the wedding you'll have a lot of things you would much rather do than sit hunched over a computer screen) You'll get the best results and it will save you a lot of time and money.

well this is a pretty worked up "discussion"

I hear ya, but I really like his work. He has a good eye and I've checked out his work extensively, and I must say that I want a bit more umpf in the post processing.

I left a message for him this evening, so when I do talk to him, I see how he personally feels about working something out for me, where we can both walk away happy with the end result. I hope he's open to compromise.

Adrionni, may I offer some advice? Go to Craigslist and post that you want someone to do it, price negotiable. My guess is that SOMEONE will do it.

Just ask to see some samples of his/her prior work first.

That is IF the other guy won't do it... never hurts to ask, huh?

I never said you needed my approval for anything.

I just thought you might spend your limited pre-nuptial time looking for a photographer rather than stirring up trouble on DPC and suggested a place to start based on your earlier posts.
