I hope no-one feels attacked by what I have said.
I think there's definitely a place for fun with Photoshop, such as this thread.
I may well add some edited photos of my own.
I just want to make it clear to people who don't want to relax the rules, that this is not what it would lead to.
Please let's not get defensive.

Okay, here's my attempt:

I'd love to see some post editing threads, aimed at best photo finishing of images - in the style that Bob suggests.

Perhaps someone should post some of what they consider their best photos, in a 'raw' state and see how well they can be finished, aiming for a realistic (i.e., not obvious photoshop filters or digital art type composites) result.

If you want to change the rules, lets see how it looks. Get a thread going with your best starting point and see how it goes - might learn something in the process too.

This sounds like a great idea. A set of tools that could be used should be established first though, ie. dodge and burn, dust, and speck removal via clone tool, etc.

this is a fun idea, I appreciate the opportunity to play around like this.

I agree that I don't want the site to become an open editing one. There are lot of them where I can do what ever I want w/ ps.

I'm here to learn how to become a better photographer and the limits on editing are what make that possible.

hahaha...JC. I love that. Did you do that in photoshop or psp? I would love to learn how to do that.

Sonifo: the Flood plug-in from Flaming Pear is a lot of fun. I don't know if that is what JC used or not, but it can do some pretty convincing "water additions".

I'd tend to disagree, but then as has been pointed out before, I'm good at that.

I think the issue of which tools to use is a non-issue. The real differentiator between what I consider good photographic editing and the sort that is in this thread (which is something else - not good or bad) is in the intent of the photographer.

I'd suggest that you could use any tools you feel like - the point is that you intend to create the best possible photographic representation of the original image. The issue being that you intend to produce something that looks as good as possible and as believeable as possible, without cutting and pasting in moons from other shots, or applying every filter possible in the most obvious way to make it look like an impressionist painting or something. (again - nothing wrong with that, I just don't consider it photography at that point)

So free choice at the tools, but a fairly narrowly defined intent for the post processing - make it look as good as possible while remining faithful to the original scene and making the result as natural as possible.

heheh,, yep, flaming pear it is. Great fun to play with.

IT's quite easy as a plug in to Photoshop.

There are pre-sets and you can also use sliders to adjust and view the real time preview.

Interesting thing is that this "Hooters" in San Francisco is located at Fisherman's wharf and the flooding could actually happen. Also, ironicly the "Hooters" is located right next to an "In & Out Burger" restaurant.

I believe the winner is "Sonifo". Love the b&w version with the cool lighting effects. Very nice. Thank you for all that participated. This was fun to look at.

Only thing I ask is start a new thread and put the date on the title of the thread. Makes it easier to find it when searching.

Otherwise make the rules as you wish :)
