I definitely agree with you Cam!

AMEN! to that. Barbara Striesand isn't flashy & even uses teleprompters because she's affraid of messing up the words, but is one heck of a talanted singer.
I found a very talented singer that had auditioned before she hit the big 30 & was turned away before she ever got to see Simon. She wrote a big blog entry on her myspace page about it. She wasn't different enough. What they don't show you on TV is that they actually have many judges & at least a couple of rounds of auditions before you ever get to Simon & Paula....so the bad ones that make it to them were only put through for entertainment purposes.

Maybe we need a little Over the hill DPC IDOL CONTEST! :)

Interesting behind the scenes article. The sad thing is, listening to her audio clip, the girl is probably talented enough to get through to Hollywood if the preliminary rounds had bothered to put her through. Apparently they didn't think she made for good TV - no crazy outfit, no big bubbly personality, and no ridiculous amount of power behind her voice to make up for the lack of the other two. Just way too normal. Sweet and mellow gets no TV love.

If I'm being honest, that would be me. I'm no Mariah Carey or Whitney Houston, more like Aimee Mann or Suzanne Vega. I might be able to pull of some of Susan Tedeschi's bluesier work. But Aimee and Suzanne probably wouldn't get past the judges either, just not flashy enough. (Susan might, though.)

ok, I'm just watching this as we're four hours behind EST in Alaska. My sides already hurt after just the first 45 minutes from laughing so hard.
My ears are gonna suffer after two hours of this though

I thought the 16 year old girl from Madison had some pipes in fact she seemed to be the only one that could truely sing out the bunch, There was a Columbian Girl that had a nice voice too but I think her accent is going to do her in before things get serious.

Ugh! I swear every year that I'm not going to watch this show and yet, here I am watching it all over again. Yeah, tonight's show was pretty much disappointing...good for a couple of laughs...but I can't wait to see the real goods!

What am I to do with Lost, Heroes, Grey's Anatomy, Men in Trees, & Desperate Housewives starting a new season? Several co-workers want me to start watching Brothers & Sisters. Not to mention my favorite PBS shows like Globetrekker, Discovery Channel, Travel Channel. Australian Open just started too!

OMG are they getting worse or is it just me. I liked the 'crack baby' girl going through, she was real!

The next show will be showing from Seattle tomorrow night, where I am but I don't believe some of the characters they previewed..sure they were from Seattle????

I've heard that they're doing more shows on the auditions this year, so we'll have fun watching the bad singers... as well as the good one ones...

Over 30 & singing the Blues :P At least in the Blues genre I'm considered a youngster! lol

In the UK we replaced Pop Idol with The X Factor a few years ago and that has a specific group for over 25s with no upper age limit. That was a great move.

I don't know the situation in the US but maybe when the current American Idol contract ends you'll get some sort of X Factor show too. (Pop Idol/American Idol is a Simon Fuller production, X Factor is a Simon Cowell production).

Did you see the Joey Ramone relative that was just on? If I didnt know he was dead I would have thought it was him dressed in drag.

Just wait - "Seattle: WORST city ever!" - Simon & Paula

Not on for another couple hours here (in Seattle). Looking forward.

I wonder if they have a forum where the contestants say "Why don't they get it?" or similar things like those found here.

the brother and sister were very good!
I'm still cringing from the reviews of the one male

The brother and sister were excellent. My ears needed the rest! Well until that one guy just previewed .. I actually shuddered!

Ok, admit it, you all laughed at Monkey Boy and His Friend, right? You should all be ashamed.
