I'm trying to find good, small, PC laptop models to scout for on Ebay. I want to spend around £300 (~$550) for a machine with at least a 1 Ghz proc and 512MB.

My currently machine is a Toshiba Portege 3490, which is about the size of a thick A4 pad (10" x 9" x 1") and weighs about 1.7 kg (3.7 lbs). I'm looking for a similar sort of size/weight but a bit newer.

I could get a newer Portege, but I was hoping for alternate suggestions.

Also if you can recommend any second hand outlets, in the UK or abroad that would be great.

Any suggestions gratefully received. :-)

Check out Woolworth website, they are selling laptops 15.4" screen etc for £399, Also have a look at Tesco's site? Or do a check on pricerunner? Hope this helps.

I have a portege and it isn't too bad. I've also had a few Librettos and those can't be beat for size. The main thing I don't like about them is many Librettos don't come with USB and the portege only hase USB 1.1

Fuji had some small Lifebooks a few years back.

You might be able to get a good deal on an old Sony Picturebook as well.

Nice shot, Strikeslip. Will Crumb run Visual Studio and store for photos? ;-)

Thanks, sodoff. I'll definitely try PriceRunner. The new cheap end laptops are a bit too big/heavy, unfortunately. Which is a shame, because I got one for dad from Tesco that's great.

Thanks Megatherian too. I'll search Ebay for those models. I wasn't aware they did Librettos reasonably recently? If they do I'll definitely have a look - I quite fancy going smaller.

Thanks hsolakidis. I tried Ebay but there's no A5's on there at the mo. I'll keep looking though.
