Newby here. I know that my camera can shoot in B&W but what I really want to know is if I am better off shooting in color and using PP to adjust to B&W or should I set my camera to B&W and shoot away. TIA for your suggestions!

Get ready for about a billion suggestions on PP. There are tutorials here (under the 'Learn' tab) and you can always search the forums for a veritable encyclopedia of PP info.

Good luck (oh, and shoot in color, then PP).

Yes, shoot in color! Then look at this tutorial: Black & White Conversion

Yeah, I've noticed other threads, everyone has there "thing" and that's what I need to see. I'll try a bit of this, a bit of that, and figure out what fits me best. Thanks w24x192.
