I rarely enter contests outside DPC, but I have entered the Photo of the Year 2006, which supports Outdoor Schools in Oregon. The contest is interesting in the way the winner is selected. First a panel of judges narrows down the pictures to 100 entries. Next, anybody can come and pick their Top 10 online. Finally, the Top 10 are printed and everybody gets one vote at a fundraiser party at the end of January.

I have 3 photos in the Top 100 and am looking to get people out to vote. The challenge encourages people to get friends and family to vote and probably feels it all evens out as you must choose 10 pictures to have it count.

So stop by 2006 Photo of the Year and vote. If you feel like throwing your support behind me, my three entries are below (personally I would have chosen some others of the ones I submitted, but I'm just happy to have been selected). You certainly can vote for whichever photos you want. Some aren't that great, but others are quite good.

The shot of the superstition mountains has been reprocessed. It does not look nearly as purple and, of course, doesn't have any of the text.

Thanks for the help everybody!

DrAchoo was able to honestly vote two of your three submissions as top ten picks. Good luck! I think my fav is the John Deere. Did you take that in LaConner, WA by any chance?

Good luck - I liked and voted for your three, but I voted for some other nice pics too!

Voted. Good luck doc; that's some stiff competition. Looks like I recognized another DPCer in there also.

Nope. It's in Woodland, OR, another smaller tulip area than the Mt. Vernon area.

Bear, I wondered if Justin Lee has the swirly leaf picture, but it doesn't look quite the same. The shot is local from the Japanese Gardens, so someone else could have taken it as well.

I also noticed that there were 4 other votings going on -- individual categories where you can vote for one. Some of the pictures were duplicated, but some were not.

I saw a couple other shots looked familiar. Can't remember offhand which. I'll go back and look.

I guess not; familiar scenes, not familiar images.

Voted two of yours in the 10. Not sure about those purple skies ;-)
Good luck Doc.

Holy cow, did you ever re-edit the Superstitions shot. "Less purple" doesn't begin to describe it. I went right past it several times and I was looking for it!

Their sizing also did your night beach shot no favors. It's still one of my all-time favorite shots on DPC, but it's so-so on that site.

Good luck!

I counted five questionable pictures. My guess is they only had slightly over 100 entries. How else could some of them make the top 100? I liked your John Deere/tulip shot the best.

They had 1400 entries. There is an Under 18 section which gets lumped into the Top 100. that's my guess.
