Hello all !

Has anybody tried them? They require 5 year exclusivity, so hard decision to contribute to them. Could it be worth it however?

You need to submit 500 images upfront for them to evaluate and then accept you or not. That alone can be quite a task!

ok, but assuming I submit those 500 images and get accepted. The main question is: what happens next? Will they be selling? Will I make more or less than if I put them all on 6 microstocks?

The thing about big stock agencies is that, even though sales may be few and far between, when you do make a sale, it's a big chunk of money. I have been on Shutter Stock for about a year and I've only made a total of $164 (granted, I only had about 43 images up until just a few days ago). On the other hand, I know one person who made a single sale with Alamy and got almost $400 for that image. I think if you have a good 500 images to submit and get accepted, and then have the dedication to keep submitting, you should go for it.

Unless you have thousands and thousands of images on microstock sites, you wont' really make that much money. All you'd need to balance it out in a year is to sell a handful of images with the big dogs. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

zygfryd - If you have the depth in your catalogue and the quality it's a no brainer. Go for it. Yeah some people make good money with micros but the pros I know make their living from big sale numbers with the big agencies. That's not to say that there aren't quality images making a good turnover with micros but there's a lot of hot air being spewed out there ref RF,RM,Macros and Micros. Let me put it this way, there are lots of people pounding on the door to get into the big leagues of photography and once you get in its a much calmer and personable atmoshpere with less sale numbers but bigger sale rewards. If you get in the door of Lonely Planet you'll do fine. It's an elite group. Best of luck whichever path you choose.
