Heartland ~ I Loved Her First
Lee Ann Womack ~ I Hope You Dance
Tim McGraw ~ My Little Girl
Carole King ~ Child of Mine
Sara Evans ~ These are the Moments

I am working on a photo memory book for my new baby girl to mark her first month. I plan to do a book each month for her first year. I would like to open each book with song lyrics, so I am asking for your help in recalling some songs that make you think of your children growing up...thanks!

I'm Already There - Lonestar

I used to travel for a living, 2 weeks at a time & my daughters used to cry and ask me when I was coming home. I was travelling through St. Louis with a co-worker the first time we heard it... both fully grown, big, strong men ended up wiping our faces & cursing at Lonestar for writing such emotional stuff when we were stuck in a work truck 1000 miles from home. We quickly changed to Metallica, or some other wildly manic noise!!!

(Then, at night in the hotel room, my oldest daughter & I would sing this song together so that she could go to sleep)

Jenesis...Thank You for your suggestions...Somewhere Over the Rainbow...I WILL use that one!

Strikeslip...yes, SpongeBob will do that. I should have specified SENTIMENTAL songs eh? LOL Although, Blues Clues Theme will do it for me. In fact, it is a ringtone on my phone and The Count from Seaseme Street is my answer tone. My kids and my photography are my addictions!!

rossbilly...PERFECT song. I love this song so much and never thought of it. The video makes me weep and I see that video in my mind every time I hear the song.

piaffe and wildcard...I will have to look these up. I don't know them!

In My Daughter's Eyes - Martina McBride
She's Somebody's Hero - Jamie O'Neal

Always makes me think of my three daughters how they see me and I see them as our relationship changes as we all grow and learn.

Turn Around - covered by many including Kenny Loggins

"Where are you going my little one, little one,
Where are you going, my baby, my own?

Turn around and you'er two,
Turn around and you're four,
Turn around and you're a young girl
Going out of the door"

etc.

I have two girls in their late teens and the lyrics really are ringing true these days.

There's two things I know for sure:
She was sent here from heaven and she's
daddy's little girl.
As I drop to my knees by her bed at night
She talks to Jesus and I close my eyes and
I thank god for all the joy in my life
Oh, but most of all
For butterfly kisses after bedtime prayer;
sticking little white flowers all up in her
hair; "Walk beside the pony, Daddy, it's my first ride."
"I know the cake looks funny, Daddy, but I sure tried."
In all that I've done wrong I know I must
have done something right to deserve a hug
every morning and butterfly kisses at night.

Sweet 16 today
She's looking like her mama a little more everyday
One part woman, the other part girl.
To perfume and make-up from ribbons and curls
Trying her wings out in a great big world.

But I remember
Butterfly kisses after bedtime prayer; sticking
little white flowers all up in her hair.
"You know how much I love you, Daddy, But if you
don't mind I'm only gonna kiss you on the cheek this time."
With all that I've done wrong I must have done
something right to deserve her love every morning
and butterfly kisses at night.

All the precious time
Like the wind, the years go by.
Precious butterfly.
Spread your wings and fly.

She'll change her name today.
She'll make a promise and I'll give her away.
Standing in the bride-room just staring at her.
She asked me what I'm thinking and I said "I'm not
sure-I just feel like I'm losing my baby girl."
She leaned over...gave me butterfly kisses with her mama there,
Sticking little white flowers all up in her hair
"Walk my down the aisle, Daddy-it's just about time."
"Does my wedding gown look pretty, Daddy? Daddy, don't cry!"

Oh, with all that I've done wrong I must have
done something right.
To deserve your love every morning and butterfly
kisses-I couldn't ask God for more, man this is what love is.

I know I gotta let her go, but I'll always remember
every hug in the morning and butterfly kisses.

With Arms Wide Open - Creed
( I was pregnant with my first son due to have him anytime and I was on my way to the doctors to find out for sure when I was to deliver because he may have been breeched but he wasnt, I heard this song on the radio for the first time. I cried all the way there and then back home.. )
(Four years later when my second son was born on the second day of being in the hospital the same song came on the news channel I was watching after I had sat rocking him in the chair while waking up to a beautiful sunrise by the window.)
I still ended up having a Cesarean Section with both of them so I really believe this song was no coincident for me to hear both times...

Songs can make you stronger or weaker..
Fill you up with emotions, send you in another realization.
Give you more for your brain to learn by memorization...

The other songs would be
All Star - Smash Mouth- Shrek Movie theme song..
This song grew on me when it came out in 1999, the year before I ever thought of becoming a mom...

Why I don't know, why this one is a popular one for us too, Sponge Bob Square Pants...
Its not like he actually has the best pants ever or that he is so special cause he fits in a square...
Maybe he is so popular because he can sneeze and snot flows out of all his holes like the fountain of coke and mentos...

Yeah thats it... coke and mentos...

:)

My kids are older now but "Waltzing with Bears" always makes me think of them. Used to hear it all the time on the public radio channel - a favorite during pledge drive week.

We'd sing along in the car. If you've never heard it, try to find it online. IT's a delight. The version I've always heard is live and the audience is always singing along.

...there's nothing Uncle Walter won't do
so he can go waltzing
wa wa wa waltzing
so he can go waltzing
waltzing with bears

I still cry whenever I hear "Daddy's Little Man" as it simply rekindles ever so sad memories for me and tears my heart out.

On the other side of the coin, the song "If I could" is a constant reminder of my daughter, and how much I love her and how I always want to be her protector and benefactor.

I guess I am blessed, as I have and continue to experience the whole range of emotions when it comes to children.

Thank you for bringing this thread to light, it makes me appreciate just how fortunate I really am.

This is an amazingly powerful song that makes me think of my kids...if you ever get the chance, please listen to this song, it is wonderful...

Mark Harris - Find Your Wings
From the album The Line Between The Two

It's only for a moment you are mine to hold
The plans that heaven has for you
Will all too soon unfold
So many different prayers I'll pray
For all that you might do
But most of all I'll want to know
You're walking in the truth
And If I never told you
I want you to know
That as I watch you grow

I pray that God would fill your heart with dreams
And that faith gives you the courage
To dare to do great things
I'm here for you whatever this life brings
So let my love give you roots
And help you find your wings

May passion be the wind
That leads you through your days
And may conviction keep you strong
Guide you on your way
May there be many moments
That make your life so sweet
Oh, but more than memories

I pray that God would fill your heart with dreams
And that faith gives you the courage
To dare to do great things
I'm here for you whatever this life brings
So let my love give you roots
And help you find your wings

It's not living if you don't reach for the sky
I'll have tears as you take off
But I'll cheer as you fly

When my kids were little, I used to always sing this song to them that John Denver wrote for his little boy called "For Baby". I've already started singing it to my little baby granddaughter, and one night she woke up in the middle of the night asking her daddy to please sing her "the Rainbow" song :)

I'll walk in the rain by your side,
I'll cling to the warmth of your tiny hand
I'll do everything to help you understand
I'll love you more than anybody can.

And I'll sing you the songs of the rainbow.
A whisper of the joy that is mine.
And leaves will bow down when you walk by,
And morning bells will chime.

I'll be there when you're feeling down.
I'll kiss away the tears if you cry.
I'll share with you all the happiness I've found,
A reflection of the love in your eyes.

I always loved the song by Carole King called Child of Mine.
I thought it was a perfect song to played at a High School Graduation.

Although you see the world different than me
Sometimes I can touch upon the wonders that you see
All the new colors and pictures you've designed
Oh yes, sweet darling
So glad you are a child of mine

Child of mine, child of mine
Oh yes, sweet darling
So glad you are a child of mine

You don't need direction, you know which way to go
And I don't want to hold you back, I just want to watch you grow
You're the one who taught me you don't have to look behind
Oh yes, sweet darling
So glad you are a child of mine

Child of mine, child of mine
Oh yes, sweet darling
So glad you are a child of mine

Nobody's gonna kill your dreams
Or tell you how to live your life
There'll always be people to make it hard for a while
But you'll change their heads when they see you smile

The times you were born in may not have been the best
But you can make the times to come better than the rest
I know you will be honest if you can't always be kind
Oh yes, sweet darling
So glad you are a child of mine

Child of mine, child of mine,
Oh yes, sweet darling
So glad you are a child of mine

Child of mine, child of mine
Oh yes, sweet darling
So glad you are a child of mine
