As a favor to my niece's, over the holidays they asked if I would take there pictures as they like some of the pictures I've taken before. I'm just a amateur but I want to do the best I can. If anyone has any advice as how I could of improved these, I would appreciate it much.. thanks in advance..

I'd much prefer to post comments on images that are posted in your portfolio here on DPC rather than on pbase (it would just feel more like part of the community that way). So instead, I'll leave my comments here in the thread:

The first image, I feel, would benefit from a reflector or low powered on-camera flash to lighten the dark side of her face just a bit...

I love, love, love the 2nd image. Posing, lighting, expression, all perfect. Wonderful work there!

I like #3 for similar reasons except that the highlights are perhaps a bit too strong.

#4 looks a little stiff.

But #5 is another awesome picture. Wow, after seeing these, I'm going to have to have more of my subjects try looking up. :-)

#6 and #7, the eyes are just a bit dark for me... again, a reflector or low powered flash would help adding a catch light to her eyes.

The leading lines in #8 and #9 are nice.

I don't know why, but on #11 and #12, I keep wanting to look at the lights at the bottom left of the image. Maybe it needs to be darkened a bit so it doesn't attract so much attention?

#13 and #14 are another set of awesome pictures - lighting, posing, expression, just perfect.

Overall, a very nice set of pictures including some really outstanding ones as well.

Great ideas! Thanks! I really need to invest in a good reflector. I don't know why I haven't yet..

on #11 and #12, I agree with you big time. I like the pictures, but my eye goes to that darn light too..

Thanks again!
